Shot2Pieces -> Matrix: new patch with improved transport AI? (8/26/2002 8:33:57 PM)

In another thread I read earlier (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24003&perpage=15&pagenumber=2), it was mentioned by Matrix that they were working on a beta patch which reduced the tendancy of AI transports to sail into danger zones, eg areas under the control of enemy LBA. Joel wrote on 8/13:

"On another note, Gary has been fooling around with a few AI changes to try to keep the computer from sailing transport groups into places they just shouldn't go. After 1.30 is released, David will probably be releasing a beta version that has this new AI code. It will allow players to keep the 1.30 and the beta exe on their machines at the same time. The only way for us to know whether the AI change is helpful or hurtful to the AI is to allow a large number of people to try it out. Look for that sometime next week."

Any word on this?

In the current scenario 19 I am playing as the US, the Japanese AI is putting up a very credible fight - except for near-suicidal groups of unescorted transports attempting to deliver supplies to enemy bases in easy range of my LBA or carrier air. Changing this one thing would make a huge difference IMHO :)

Luskan -> Stuff that! (8/26/2002 8:51:47 PM)

Never mind that - if the AI wants to sacrifice transports that is his business! ;)

I'm far more concerned with the subversion of the change of command that occurs when my troops are starving (serves them right for loosing the battle) and some kind hearted transport TF commander on "computer control" decides that he'll take his load of supplies to them - deciding this at the START of the night phase sometime, so that without warning, TF's appear a day off course. Usually they are diverting halfway across the map (because if I had TF's and supplies near the troops I'd be supplying them obviously) and get creamed in the process.

Big problem. No TF commander has the authority to disobey direct orders from me.
