smittyohio90 -> total noob questions (12/5/2010 1:41:34 AM)

Finally tried to get started playing a Guadalcanal scenario as the Allies, and had a few questions...

1) Noumea should be my main base of operations I assume... will supplies / fuel / etc get shipped from the US directly to here (automatic convoys?) ? I seem extremely hamstrung in the early part of the campaign, and am relying on shipping things in from Australia.

2) I was trying to reinforce Lunga with some troops from Noumea, but can't get them as available to load onto the transports, even though I believe I am using the correct ships, and have the troops in strategic move mode. What I am doing wrong? The troops in question are the America l/164 Inf Regiment, along with 132 and 182... The ships are AP Wharton, Harris, and Heywood...

I've done a million things wrong so far, but I'm enjoying learning.. Just wish there was a little more feedback on why something can't be done.

Thanks

1}. Look at the Noumea information screen. It shows you how much you will receive there daily in terms of supplies and fuel. This scenario will remind you that our troops called Operation Watchtower "Operation Shoestring".

2). I don't have the scenario loaded right now, so I can't give you a definite answer. Are you sure that the troops have finished preparations to load in Strategic Mode (i.e., is there a line saying something like "ready in 1 day" on the unit's info screen)?

Hehe, yeah, I didn't expect an overabundance of supplies, I just couldn't figure out where they would come from.

As far as the troops, they are definitely done with the preparations... I'm going to restart anyway, so I'll see if it works this time.

Thanks!

A Amphib TF will move combat ready troops.

A Transport TF will require the troops to be in 'Strategic Move' mode - packed up and ready to ship out. You can put a LCU into Strategic mode and still pick it for loading into a Transport TF. It wont actually load until it finishes packing.[:)]

I guess I'm amphib, and the rest of the family is strategic. [:D]

1. The numbers appearing after the slashes for the supplies and fuel on Noumea's base info screen are the amounts you are getting per turn at the base.

2. You need to change the HQ for a unit you want to transport from SoPac Rear Area (a restricted command) to SoPac (an unrestricted command) in order to move them. Lunga is a SoPac base. You can't move units from a restricted command to a base not reporting to that command. Changing the reporting HQ for the unit you want to move will cost political points, points you don't have many of at the beginning of the scenario. Thus, you may not be able to send all of the Americal division to Lunga as you desire.

Thanks, I was afraid that was what was killing me on the transport since it's not in the same command, and I don't have the political points to change it :(
