jheydt -> Air Transport of Troops (8/27/2002 7:40:27 AM)

In my pbem game I have designated C-47s to transport troops to Lunga. I have picked the unit that I want transferred. I have set the destination hex (Lunga). However, I see nothing happening. Am I missing something? Do I actually have to transfer the C-47's to Lunga in addition to setting a destination?

Can't believe that it takes 3 turns to load the engineer unit and send it.

If your destination is too far away, your troops won't be transported, but you won't get a notification of this. Essentially, when you "click" on the air transport group, if the base you want to transport troops to is beyond the first radius of the air group, you are out of luck. The closer the target base to the plane, the more troops will be transferred at each turn. The planes have a limited capacity, so big groups can take many flights.

Also, the usual bit about "fatigue" and "morale" holds - if the air crew fatigue is too high and the morale is too low, they won't fly either. Make certain that fatigue is below 40 and morale is above 50.

Finally, the base must have a level 1 airfield. If it doesn't, you will have to use PBYs, and they carry fewer troops than C-47s. Also, if the base isn't under your control, you can't do it, unless you are dropping paratroops.

Good luck -

Luskan -> It is working (8/27/2002 4:48:43 PM)

I had the same question - and the answer is that because the combat replay is shown to BOTH players in a PBEM game, all of the stuff that an opponent couldn't know about has been left out of the reply (like transport and supply missions). Your transports (if in range) have been flying to lunga and depositing your troops there, but becasue you aren't playing SP anymore, there was no red line and caption box to tell you. Check Lunga - you'll find your troops are sitting there.

Only way an opponent can find out about your transport missions is to put a cap over your destination airfield (and shoot down all of your transports), then it becomes a combat issue and is shown to both players on the replay.

corbulo -> related topic (8/29/2002 4:49:40 PM)

On a related issue, I wish the transports would stop after transporting the selected unit, instead they keep on transporting unit after unit. It has moved several units that I did not want moved.

[/B][/QUOTE]I've never had that happen. It's always defaulted back to transporting supplies after the unit is transported. Of course, my game was started under v1.20 and I haven't tried it in newer games yet.

Air or naval transports ? My C-47s just transport the selected land unit ... and after they switch to transport supplies

corbulo -> ein irrtum (8/29/2002 8:51:52 PM)

I am mistaken, Is there any way to tell how much of the selected unit will be moved in the turn?

Not an easy one ... However, since you know your unit load cost and the load capacity of a Catalina or a C-47, the equation must not be very hard to find ...

NorthStar -> Fuel Transport (8/30/2002 3:33:26 AM)

On a related topic, does anyone know why Naval Fuel can't be transported by Aircraft?

I asked this once before and don't believe I received a reply.
