FM WarB -> How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 4:23:10 PM)

I have an old computer with only one Gig RAM. How slow will the game be? Presuming I will be advised to use low resolution graphics, how will it look?

diablo1 -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 4:30:07 PM)

Wow 1 gig of ram I haven't heard of that small of a size of memory since my P160 Pentium III computer!

Erik Rutins -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 4:32:13 PM)

It will run, but quite slowly as 1 Gig is the absolute minimum. If the rest of your computer is reasonably fast and not overloaded with software, it should be quite playable. We tested it on several systems that were at the minimum spec. One one of them it was extremely slow, to the point of being almost unplayable, but that was also due to that system not being optimized. On the others, it was slow but playable.

If you can get an additional .5 or 1 Gig of memory, it will help a lot.

Regards,

- Erik

I'm taking the chance it will work well on my machine, I too only have a Gig. [:D][:'(][:D]

PyleDriver -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 5:12:03 PM)

I've been testing with 768mb of Ram. The units move alittle slower now, and the AI takes 30 min to move in the full campaign. Other than that it plays fine... I know I need more Ram...

FM WarB -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 5:15:55 PM)

I completely avoided the Vista "experience" with this machine, so I've grown attached to it.

Zovs -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 5:16:57 PM)

When I first begun testing last year I only had a gig, it ran well but very, very slow. When I bought a new machine (4 gigs and dual core CPU) it was absolutely fantastic and quite faster. When I ran tests of human vs. AI on the 1 gb machine the AI could take up to 45 minutes to run in the 1941-45 campaign game. On the 4 gb dual core it takes less then 4 minutes for the AI to do his turn.

I'm thinking the 486 i found on the side of the road won't run this......as it only has 20mb of memory, a 365mb hard drive and Windows for Workgroups.

Zovs -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 5:21:24 PM)

lol, the download is larger then that hard drive...

Neal_MLC -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 5:22:28 PM)

Is that a 486sx or dx?

486SX/25

smokin!

Has a vintage Soundblaster 16 ISA card too. Cleaned it up...got it running and loaded "X-wing" and "Out of this World" on it. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to fight with DOS's memory management requirements......main, expanded, extended.....wheeee! Ironically...my very first PC was a Packard Bell too. Getting the case off was more challenging than a Turn one WitP:AE grand campaign. Almost took the advice from an Internet forum which suggested dropping it from a 4 story building.

I think i can get WitE to run on it.......[:D]

LOL....Nik I can see you've tried to boost the performance of it by giving it encouragement and naming it a 'Legend'[;)]

diablo1 -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 6:05:40 PM)

My god look how clean that old system is. I'd hate to show you my room and setup lol.

Terminus -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 6:11:31 PM)

Well, it's probably clean, because he's just finished cleaning it...

There was alot of cobwebs and dead spiders to clean out of it....as well as the leaked insides of the dead CMOS battery. Other than acid damage to the serial port connections (which were closest to the sodered cmos batt), it's in pretty good shape. because of said dead cmos....have to manually configure the hard drive every time i turn it on in the BIOS. [:D]

diablo1 -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 6:21:07 PM)

Wow I never thought of removing the battery before putting mine up in the closet. <cry>

Nikademus -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 6:32:12 PM)

I recently picked up a 5.25in floppy drive unit from a local recycle store (They had "one" left and don't expect to see any more come in). When the kid at the cash register rang it up....he looked at it and said...."What is it?"

Ah.....i feel old....just like my new 486! [:D]

(The floppy now sits above my 3.5in floppy drive in my currently defunct P4 whose' motherboard caught fire last month......awaiting installation of replacement MSI board just got through Ebay)

on topic.....This P4 also has 1Gig of RAM. Wonder if WitE will run on it! only problem is.....its my Win98 box. [:D]

morganbj -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 6:37:41 PM)

But does it have an 8 track player?

what's that? [:D] (i wish i didn't know what that was)

Well GF just shot down my subtle hint on a Xmas gift this year.....i think her exact words were "I'm not spending 80 *(&&( bucks on a game about something that happened 70 years ago" or something along those lines. [sm=00000117.gif]

Looks like i'll be running this 486 friendly version of WitE.

FM WarB -> RE: How does the game run on one Gig RAM? (12/8/2010 7:18:24 PM)

OK now that I don't feel so bad about my XP machine with one Gig RAM, has anyone else run the game with such a system?
