MajorDude -> Hotseat? (12/8/2010 7:24:06 PM)

I looked at the product page and searched the forums, but I cannot seem to get enough detail on the different ways this game offers player vs. player possibilities.

1) Is HOTSEAT available - where 2 players take turns on the same computer playing against each other?

2) What do they mean by "Server Based" PBEM?

Here is all I could find on the product information page:

Players: 1-2
AI: Yes
PBEM: Yes, Server Based

hence my questions.

Thank you for your replies.

They will decide whether I purchase/recommend it or not.

1. Yes. Just set both players to human and then switch out when it's the other guys turn.

2. The Multiplayer option on the main page is for server based games. These are played between two human opponents where the game is saved on the server rather than on your own computer as would happen with a typical play by email game (PBEM).

Hertston -> RE: Hotseat? (12/8/2010 7:31:26 PM)

In relation to 2, the idea is to both provide an anti-cheat mechanism, and limit play to registered users of the game (i.e. anti-piracy).

James Ward -> RE: Hotseat? (12/8/2010 8:00:04 PM)

Does the Server based game play like a hot seat gome? That is do you make your turn and then the other player can begin their turn, assuming they are on line?

It takes a few moments for the game to be sent to the server for saving. Once it does, your opponent will get an email indicating it is his turn. If he is up the server page and has refreshed it, the game will indicate it is his turn at which time he can load it and play it. It doesn't take long for this process, depends on your server connection but it can be quick but not as quick as hotseating since you are right there together.

So you could arrange to play 3-4 turns and do it without much delay? If so it sounds great. Now I just have to see about getting some additional RAM!

blastpop -> RE: Hotseat? (12/8/2010 8:30:11 PM)

Having played FoG using the PBEM system, I have played two scenarios simultaneously against an opponent, so with in reason, we send moves back and forth keeping us both busy, almost as if we were hotseating. Could work here as well, though timing can be an issue since I am sure turns will take substantially longer with WitE.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have a question now that is a bit different, and I can't remember if this is possible or not.

Can we purchase this, or other Maitrix games, as a gift for someone else (similar to what you can do with steam)?

If so, does it show our email address or does it show more information (steam only shows your email address, which is safer and more convenient in the internet world of today)?

Thanks for your help! [:)]

Joel Billings -> RE: Hotseat? (12/8/2010 9:01:06 PM)

You can use a different ship to address. As for the email, I'm not sure. This is a question for Erik. You should probably start a new thread with this question so Erik reads it.

Had not realized this was part of the design. I am already thinking I like the game a bit more just for this detail. I've been massively happy with BBC BA all because it has the same function.

Wish EVERY wargame would call this mandatory.

Yes, for 1v1 pvp play, it sounds like a cool mechanism...

john1977 -> RE: Hotseat? (12/9/2010 11:14:43 AM)

first every post on Matrix![X(]
but have to say this sounds and excellent system for 1v1 play.

always be a bit dubious of the save game and send system, as i tend get my game time over a longer stretch but for only once or twice & week (if iam lucky!)therefore it seems this system, will mean games can be progressed quicker

looking forward to try it.

PS game seems really good so far!
