CptWaspLuca -> Facing, please help (12/9/2010 10:13:04 PM)

Hello,
after some playing I still don't understand unit's facing. A unit moves against a side of the destination hex; but then it faces a corner. If I select facing explicitly it's ok; but when I move I'm never sure about what facing will the unit automatically assume at the end of the movement, between the two possible corners adjacent to the side target of the last move.

The online help is totally insufficient for me, I agree with those people complaining about the lack of a truly printable (and complete) manual. In the rules I can't find no mention of the fact that facing is against a corner, and a motivation for this choice.

Can someone help?

Thank you

Hmm I'll take a stab but i am not sure what you mean by " the side of a destinaton hex"    Units in this game only face the 6 vertices.  It  does take a little practice though, and note that drilled /undrilled units can do diffent things.  What i suggest you do is load up a large scenario with a lot of units and play it hotseat (try with double moves off as well) .  Move units around, practice changing facing ist before you move and after (to get a feel for what drilled unrilled units can and cant do if they change a facing ist)  Pretty soon it should become second nature.

What I mean is that normally a unit faces a side of a hex, and not a vertex, I know only another wargame (a boardgame, Lock 'n Load) where vehicles point toward vertices, and there the rules are clear. When I move a unit the final facing it will have is not clear to me. Sometimes it points to the vertex to the right of the "normal" (aligned to the side of the hex) position, and sometimes to the left of it.

I will make some attempts, but I hoped in some precise ruling about final facing.

The reason is that with an edge facing your front is either 1 hex side or 3. 1 is too few and 3 too many. By pointing at an edge we have a frontal facing of 2 hex sides, 2 flank side & 2 rear sides which is perfect for gameplay. Final facing is entirely about the direction you moved. If you moved in your frontal arc you will stay facing the same way, if you didnt you'll have to turn to face. It's pretty simple really.

Thank you, now it's clear.
