wmcalpine -> Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 8:19:02 AM)

Can anyone suggest what settings to use for quickest execution speed. The PO is taking about 15 minutes/turn in the 41 campaign game and I want to speed that up if I can

Thank you

Bill

For me, the AI takes between 25 and 30 minutes in combat intensive turns. I'm not sure how you're going to get it much lower than 15, although the Soviets AI takes about 10 minutes in a 1941 game for me as it doesn't attack.

PDiFolco -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 11:31:07 AM)

Wow, that's long ! What machine do you have ?

ComradeP -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 11:35:03 AM)

Dual core with 2.61 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. It's mostly the movement that seems to be slow, and as the AI likes to move a lot of unit, that makes for lengthy turns.

E -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 3:00:01 PM)

15-30 minutes for an AI turn, is... not a real "turn-on." (Shades of Carrier Force on a IIe?!?)

karonagames -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 3:12:20 PM)

It's roughly about a quarter of the time it takes a human to do a turn. And then people complain the AI doesn't do a good job. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

blastpop -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 3:25:29 PM)

Since you folks have jumped into the campaign and I am just playing the small Minsk scenario... I have a question.

Does the computer do its move hidden for the most part? I'm thinking I could get up and do something else or you need to sit and watch whats going on? I suppose you could also look at the map for battles after the computers turn to get filled in on the details?

Is there a general preference yet on this?

karonagames -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 3:30:42 PM)

Personal preference I guess. You can gain a little bit more information by watching the pattern of Attacks, but in general, analysing the combat result reports should tell you where the enemy is making an extra effort and sending his better generals.

As a follow up to your answer, how can you tell me the location of enemy generals in the game?

FM WarB -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 3:38:31 PM)

Is there an option to not watch the enemy turn?

It's probably more of a "meta-game" thing, but I have started analysing the modified combat values, as I am beginning to think that better generals are having a bigger influence than I at first thought. I don't think I'll get to the point where I can say "oh yeah Zhukov was in charge of that attack", but I think you could see the difference between a general with an infantry rating of 6 an one with a rating of 8.

I missed the relevance there? Wouldn't that be a parallel problem and/or complaint, at best?

Efficiency and effectiveness are not necessarily the same thing. Just look at Computer Ambush version 1 versus version 2 for an old and/or extreme and/or exaggerated example (<--- a lot of "V" words together in that sentence, makes me want to say "Vesuvius" for some reason *grin*).

However, being as I'm not a real general, it doesn't take a HAL 9000 to give me entertainment. (read: if you hear/read me complaining about an AI being poor, it is really poor! *grin*)

@E. I could start with all the sexual analogies relating to being turned on/off, but I think we can let it lie.[;)]

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I would like to thank everyone for their responses. I thought I saw a post that indicated that the AI would take less than 5 minutes. I am happy with 15 given what BA stated

Redmarkus5 -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 5:26:54 PM)

I find that I am able to run other apps (including WiTP AE turn execution, Outlook, browser, etc.) while the AI is doing its turn and then review the combat reports with the F11 function. You get exactly the same data as you would sitting and watching the AI's turn play out, in about 10% of the time. Running other apps doesn't stop the WiTE AI from completing its processing.

I have FoW on, by the way, so I don't see the AI moves anyway...

Scook_99 -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 6:44:06 PM)

I am playing full campaign right now, and it's taking about 5-10 minutes for the computer to do his turn. I have the same processors as ComradeP, but I do have 4GB of RAM. I also don't see any enemy movements. I am leaning towards RAM being hugely important in the processes for this game.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 6:46:42 PM)

System specs have a definite impact on AI turn time. On our most powerful system here, the full campaign AI takes less than five minutes. On my home system, closer to ten. I just do something else while it's running. The sound effects alert me to when there is a battle or significant movement and I look over when that happens.

- Erik

Is there a way to SLOW DOWN the AI move? In the tutorial, on my system the screen just goes blank and the screen for the next move appears. I have no time to see what the AI did, except to examine the combat results.

Krec -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/11/2010 10:51:51 PM)

i have a solution, buy more ram[:'(] its cheap now, 4gigs should do the trick. i have 2 and will be getting 2 more tonight. Problem solved. [:D]

Avenger -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/12/2010 12:14:45 AM)

I am playing the full campaign and the Russian computer player is taking 3-4 minutes a turn. The game does not show me the computer players moves. I see bombing missions and things like that, but even when the Russian player cuts my supply lines it doesn't show me.

henri51 -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/12/2010 12:19:25 AM)

OK I found the answer. There are settings in the preferences for the level of detail shown in battles and how long they stay on. For small scenarios like the tutorial it is fun to watch as first your fighters and bombers attack and are hit, then your artillery and mortar and finally  then infantry, armor, AT guns and so on...

Henri

Razz1 -> RE: Settings for fastest PO execution speed (12/12/2010 2:53:49 AM)

15-20 minutes is a hell of a long time.

Is that with the AI movement turned off?
