Homeworld 2 shipset for Distant Worlds.

I made this mainly because I'm a fan of the space based 3D RTS 'Homeworld' series and I thought that the ships would suit this game very well. turns out they did so here they are.


LEGAL:
Original ship images © Relic Entertainment, credit also to "Covenant" for some of the inv_portrait images for ships I couldn't find from his HW2 SE5 shipset.
Modified for Distant Worlds by Setekh.


PACKAGE CONTENTS:
Package includes complete shipset art for all vessel types.
Version 2 and above includes fighter and bomber images for use in the 'Distant Worlds: Return of the Shakturi' expansion pack.
Version 3 and above includes a carrier image for the 'Distant Worlds: Legends' expansion pack.
Racial portraits for diplo screens and 'about' text files for themes.

Also included is a custom flag for use with the Hiigaran race. Unfortunately custom flags are not yet supported so you will have to navigate to Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\images\ui\flagshapes, back up flag18 and then move the custom one over.
Note: This does not apply to v3 for 'Distant Worlds: Legends' the custom flag is built into the mod.

v1.1: Custom flag made and included in pack, added fighter and bomber icons for RotS v1.5.0.0

v1.2: Fixed some texture issues.
Fixed engine emission positions for small freighter.
Fixed engine emissions for the passenger ship.
Added running lights to various ships.

Thanks for the welcome Igard.

You've no idea how awkward doing the flag was.
I had to get the image off the net, manually edit it in photoshop to remove all the antialiased pixels so it was just black/white, then spend an hour figuring out how to get it into .WMF format.
To be honest I'm still not happy with it, but it'll do for now.

I plan on doing more editing on this set and getting it polished before releasing it.

Believe me, I know how awkward it is. I spent alot longer than 1 hour figuring out the wmf format. I ended up drawing all the flags myself! Yours looks great though.

Certainly wouldn't object to a ship set based off the Homeworld Factions. Taiidan, Kushan, Turanic Raiders, and possibly the Kadeshi (though I have a feeling that for some of them you'd have to use a little artistic license to make the ships).

Shipset and flags replace the 'Humans' by default.

It's going to be at least the 21st before I can get the expansion so a modified set including fighter and carrier images will have to wait until then unfortunately. Unless someone wants to post the original templates here so I can modify them. I already have HW2 images rendered and ready to implement.

Finally bought RotS expansion and have edited the shipset to include the new fighters and bombers.
I also included the carrier pic for use in dedicated carrier designs.

Version 1.2 for original DW done.
Version 2.1 for RotS done.

Fixed some texture issues.
Fixed engine emission positions for small freighter.
Fixed engine emissions for the passenger ship.
Added running lights to various ships.
Some other small changes/touchups.

Added readme file for guidance on installation after seeing AminMaalouf's post above.

I've decided to maintain updates for the original version for DW 1.0.6.0 as I understand that not everyone will have bought the expansion. So links to both versions will remain on my website.

The latest version for DW is v1.2
The latest version for Return of the Shakturi is v2.1

Setekh, are you planning to add the Vaygr, or any of the other races?  The Vaygr has been released for SEV for a while:

I was thinking about it, but the images in that SE5 set aren't very good to use in DW as they are not top-down.
Plus, I had to use quite a bit of the ships from the Vaygr set in this mod because I ran out of Hiigaran ships.

If I did a Vaygr set there would be so many copies for stuff like mining stations, bases, civ ships and even some of the military stuff because all those Vaygr inv_portraits are on their side, which ruins it.

Looks like a few people have enjoyed the set, over 300 downloads. :O
For users of this set, I will be updating it for the upcoming expansion when it releases. Sets for the previous games will still be available for those who don't have all 3 games.

Looks like the dedicated carrier images I included will finally get used.

Setekh, I have a really good looking set of Higaaran ships I made for a mod for a diffrent game. I was considering converting it to my shipyards but there already was your HW2 mod. The ships however are all in high resoultion. If you don't mind spending some time on rescaling to 300x300 I can sent them your way. :]It would certainly be a pleasant addition for the HW2 fans playing DW out there (myself included).

Ok, so I finally picked up the Legends expansion an hour ago. I'll be playing with it over the next few days and see how much work needs doing to bring this ship set over to it, not much hopefully.

Files for DW and RotS have been moved over to a new provider since my old ftp is now down, the version for the original DW had almost 400 downloads though which is awesome and something which I never expected. When I first created this I thought there would be a half dozen people grabbing it to check it out at the most, imagine my surprise when interest reached into triple digits.

Hopefully GameFront doesn't give anyone any issues when downloading and hopefully I wil have a version that is Legends friendly in a few days.

Sorry it took so long lol, but that's what happens when you get sucked into other games that go for pennies in the Steam summer sale. I'm getting back into my other games and first thing that came to mind was to actually get this mod sorted out.

Files for DW and RotS have been re-uploaded. Gamefront's policy on file storage has changed which resulted in the deletion of the original 2 files.
