Originally posted by Luskan I want to know why task forces made up of tankers and puny escorts like PCs and PGs operating from Truk to Rabaul show 50 fuel in red as their full load (not counting in cargo), when it is obvious the escorts will borrow fuel from the tanker (either its tanks or it's fuel cargo) etc. Also, how realistic is it for a ship that is out of fuel to move 1 hex per turn (or is it one per night and one per day?). 60 miles a day is a long way to row - that is 100kms in 24 hours! While kayakers in the Hawkesbury Challenge regularly do 111km in 14 or 15 hours, rowing a kayak is easier than paddling a submarine!
I think Makaer is right about the out of fuel ship movement. Matrix and 2by3 just didn't want to have to worry about towing routines. (IIRC, that statement is in the manual.) As far as the red number goes, seems like it should display that way. First of all, consider that yas ou will be borrowing fuel from the AO just to support the escorts, the useable fuel load will be lower when the TF (either Transport or Replenishment) reaches its destination. Also, taking on fuel ueses Operations points, which effectively slows down the TF. In both cases, the red range flags you that ther is a fuel problem. You know it will be compensated for, but there will be an effect on your TF performance. Good information to have.
