Krob -> Feature or Bug?: Attacked by friendly empire (12/17/2010 8:39:27 AM)

In my game (the first with the expansion) The Calaan Authority (Dhayut) are at +47 and we have a Free Trade Agreement, yet their ships are constantly attacking mine. And I'm unable to target their ships in return (but my ships do fire back). They've been coming in large waves (5-10 frigate/destroyers).

Is this a feature? A bug? Pirates in disguise?

You should be able to attack his ships, are you sure you are not able to?

The Dhayut are nasty bastards I wouldn't be surprised if they attacked me under a Free Trade Agreement.

My ships will automatically return fire, but I am unable to direct their fire (no crosshairs). Maybe I just don't understand the diplomacy, but I would think the 40+ standing would outweigh the fact that they're furious. In my pre-patch game, I had 4 or 5 empires that were furious with similar standing and never saw this behaviour. *shrugs*

Well if you shift right click I'm pretty confident you will have the option to attack if you wanted.

The Dhayut are pretty insidious, they don't care about their reputation and will attack just to be nasty, trust me. Certainly in the expansion other Empires are more likely to just attack my ships when I enter their domain if they are jealous of me and depending on their race.

Extremely aggressive races like the Dhayut will typically have individual ship captains acting aggressively even if they are not at war. It can and does happen, how you choose to respond to it is up to you.

I find an industrial strength can of RAID (assault fleet) solves the problem. [;)]

The Dhayut are without honor.......   (low growl)

is your reputation low? i beleve factions will attack your ships if its too low

Krob -> RE: Feature or Bug?: Attacked by friendly empire (12/17/2010 3:37:24 PM)

Glad to know that this is a "feature". :P In all the other games I've played I'd only ever seen one or two ships do this (which I thought was a fluke), never task forces. :/ Guess I'll have to start building a few forward gas mining stations and finally get around to building some planetary assault wessels.

Faction is Heroic, adecoy95. I think, to paraphrase, that the Dhayut are simply ****s. And this behaviour seems to be by design. And they will need to be exterminated before they learn how to build real ships.

. . . . oh, and I think you'll find that sometimes they (AI) lie too you . . . . [;)]

Shark7, include a batch of galactic strength "DDT" (Dangerously Deadly Torpedoes) with that fleet!

Sounds like things have broken down at the negotiation table.

I'd declare war and begin a counter offensive.

elliotg -> RE: Feature or Bug?: Attacked by friendly empire (12/17/2010 10:13:49 PM)

I'll chime in with some other things to watch for: if your military ships are in a system that they consider theirs, then they'll be quite likely to attack you. They might also just be showing their nasty streak and attacking you because they don't like you, see you as a threat, or feel that they can get away with it [:)]

Also, if your ships they are attacking are civilian ships (freighters, etc) then that would be why you cannot direct their counterattacks (you have no control over your civilian ships, though they will fire back at attackers).

Krob -> RE: Feature or Bug?: Attacked by friendly empire (12/17/2010 10:30:07 PM)

They've attacked mostly in my systems. Always my military ships, never my civilian ships or star bases. I've just come to accept that they're just rat bastards. :P

Best method begin an onslaught of spies, whilst getting some good defence pacts with other races then wait until they go to war and join in the bombing to your hearts content.
