I noticed a odd quirk with the new Beta patch. When I go to move units across the map, sometimes they don't complete movements to the full extent, they stop at random locations along their paths. This is across open, fully controlled territory too. After they stop they become unhighlighted and are difficult to find if mixed in with other units. This happens with all different types of units and occurs at random it seems. Does this happen to anyone else or just me?

This is not the first such report. As you say, the biggest problem that it is very random and I'm not able to reproduce it. [:(]

One question, does it happen with stack (>1) or with single units as well?

It happens with both, single and stacked.  I've never moved a stack and had it do this, but units coming out of stack this will happen to.

Happens with single units also. Next time it happens I'll see if I can save back up to a prior save and see if I can catch it.

It happens randomly for me with both stacks and single units. Sometimes when moving a stack, one unit completes and the other drops-off halfway. You can actually miss the fact that this has happened, so you leave the dropped-off unit sitting there... I would say 1 move in 5 is affected. I posted some screen shots to illustrate yesterday

This is very odd, but now that we have several reports of it, it's clear it can happen. I can't think of any mechanism that might stop the unit from moving in the middle of the move. From aonther post I get the idea that this is not something that can be undone. Can any of these moves be repeated from a save? If you see this happen, please go back to your previous save if you can and see if it repeats. If it does, please send it to 2by3@2by3games.com. This is going to be a very difficult bug to find unless we can get it to repeat.

I noticed it in my new game vs. german AI (1.05 beta). It happened twice in a row. On the second occurance there was air interdicition in the hex where my unit stopped.

I would guess that some portion of the air-interdiction routine may be halting movement.

I had assumed that this was a deliberate feature which allows you to change the remainder of your movment plot after finding out that you just got hammered.

Air interdiction bug... that's an interesting thought - thanks. I was watching closely and there was no air interdiction icon as far as I can recall, but I will look out for that in future.

To be honest, I installed Patch 1 this evening and I haven't had this problem since the upgrade, but I have only played 1 turn.

OK, no dice.

It happened again (Game patched to latest version). There was no interdiction attack that I could see, although the airbase unit in this case had been bomber during the German AI phase.

Joel - I will send you this save game as well, saved the instant the problem occurred.

IIANM air interdiction uses same icon as air bomb attack. Mouse over and read it and it should say something about interdiction, may have 2 of 3 or 1 of 3 messages to cycle through on pop-up.

No, I checked that. All 3 messages say the airfield was bombed... There's a real-time icon that comes up during interdiction, right? that didn't show when this move was aborted.

Also, wouldn't the unit stop at the point where it was interdicted? there's no icon anywhere along the route

Also, the unit started its move with a move points value of 25, but after the abort that's reduced to zero.

Mark, the only save I got from you was after the move where the unit stopped prematurely. I could use a repeatable instance with a save before it happens.

As for interdiction, I had thought about that and it's a possibility, but in the case of the German move, I figured the odds were near zero of a Soviet interdiction attack. However, it's something worth looking into.

I've reloaded my first russian turn vs. german AI. Havn't done anything yet as Russian. Now just start moving units to the rear.

Most units move normally.

Some stop somewhere with no apparent cause.

Some stop and there is air interdicition.

What I haven't seen is a unit hit by air interdiction and continue moving.

I'll try some more.

I patched from 1.5 beta to 1.1

Practiced retreating the entire red army several times.

I can say for sure that air interdiction stops movement. There also seem to be fewer examples of units stopping for no apparent reason. I thought the issue was solved but I did eventually get a few after a few hundred retreats. (God I'm board--I wish Tophat would snd me a turn!!)

Not sure it's that much of a problem but it can be confusing if you're not paying too close attention and you're unit stops midstream. Then you have to play find the lost unit.

Anyway love the game and hope you find the glitch without too much trouble.

I had the fortune of this event happening right after a save in the game.  I tried 5 different reloads and none of them could replicate the problem.  So Joel, as far as I can tell, this event can not be replicated. [&:]

It still happens with 1.1 but much less frequently than before the patch. Before it was 1 move in maybe 3, now it's more like 1 move in 50 for me.

No news. I'm waiting to hear from Gary about whether the interdiction system could be the cause. I don't expect an answer until Monday. Even then we may not have a definitive answer. Random bugs like this are the hardest to figure out.

Thanks for responding Joel, I did a test with 2 versions of WitE.  One of 1.0 and 1.01.  Since the updates (I would of tested the betas if I would of kept them) this problem has arisen.  Hope this helps narrow down the area for the fix.

I reported it with Beta 101.4. At the time I was told that nobody else had reported this, so maybe that's where it actually started?
