In plain vanilla DW, I would frequently use the diplomacy option to negotiate a trade deal. From there, the AI players would offer up techs, maps and bases. So far in RotS, I'm only seeing the option to trade for cash. Is anyone else seeing a change here? I don't remember seeing anything in the readme about this.

The old system was a little prone to abuse- you could see what techs the AI had and buy up their territory maps. But it was very useful and it was also flexible- if your maps or techs were better than the AI you could get some extra cash out of it.

I not understand it is the same diplomacy as before.

The Empire has to have some degree of positive relations with you in order to trade anything more than cash.

It takes roughly +5 (ballpark figure) before they are even willing to trade maps with you, far more than that for FTA, even more for Tech, and more yet still for MDP.

As far as I can see the major change is that there are now triggers for when you can trade various stuff.

So far I've found that you need a positive relationship to be able to buy maps and tech.

Thanks. I'm seeing the same thing now.
