I did that but they were still doing it. What is the function called to stop them in the options screen.

What i really want is to set up a rally point. So when the ship is built it goes to the rally point.

There is an option (in empire policy screen I believe) that indicates whether newly built ships are automated. If not, they should just hang out around your planet until used.

Okay i will look for that next time i play the game. Thanks for your help.

No problem.

One of the hardest parts about learning this game is learning to let go a bit. Most RTS games require tight control over your units, but this game actively fights micromanagement at some levels. Personally I leave most of my ships on automate and they do a passable job. They escort mining ships, freighters, and colony ships on their own, a task which would normally take intensive micromanagement and a massive amount of effort on my part.

Litjan -> RE: How do i stop Military ships (12/20/2010 11:28:37 AM)

There is really no "rally point" in DW, but you could work around that by assinging them to a certain fleet (the one that you want to use in that "area" - you can even assign them while they are still built. Then they will head out to meet that fleet after being built.
I find it easier to only work with fleets, instead of individual ships. That way you can build some ships to take care of everyday tasks (like protecting stations and such) and work with the fleets on the "bigger things" like attacking the enemy and so on.

Hope this helped, Jan

You'll also want to set there maximum engage ranges to fit your style. I leave mine on default, but you may want to set yours shorter so they stay closer to home.

I couldn't find the empire policy screen. Are you able to post a screen shot.

It is at the top, looks like a notebook and has lots of settings.

Aures -> RE: How do i stop Military ships (12/21/2010 11:27:58 AM)

Wozza, automate on build is set in the options menu>empire settings screen not the empire policy screen. The options menu is the computer icon in the top left of the screen, or the options menu option in the main menu/ esc key menu. For reference purposes the empire policy screen is the fourth icon from the left along the top row of buttons, looks like a notepad and pen.

The maximum engage ranges can mean two things. One is the stance which can be changed per unit/fleet for the current mission and globally set in the options menu>empire settings screen. The other thing is the stronger opponent and weaker opponent settings in the design screen. I'm pretty sure Shark7 was talking about the default stance settings.

Is this the screen you are referring to. http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1913/optionst.png
Or is it this one. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/7474/empireb.png

Aures -> RE: How do i stop Military ships (12/22/2010 10:02:26 AM)

The second one, but my apologies as you are playing the original DW so newly built ships are always automated, you will have to take them off automatic manually. But you can still set the default stances and engagement ranges.

Unless you specify you are playing the original people will now assume you are playing the expansion ROTS. As the expansion is currently on sale now is a good time to get it before the price goes up.

forsaken1111 -> RE: How do i stop Military ships (12/22/2010 10:18:23 AM)

Ahh, that would explain it. We assumed you were playing with the expansion. :)

The option was not there in the original game, so you will indeed have to do it manually as Aures says.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I did state DW so i thought people knew i was playing the original DW. I also have ROTS but i am waiting for the TRSE mod to come out for it which is why i am playing DW with the TRSE mod.

So i have to go to each individual ship if i want to give it orders and stay at base.

forsaken1111 -> RE: How do i stop Military ships (12/22/2010 11:15:03 AM)

You can toggle automation from the ship window as well, clicking the rightmost column for each military ship

Aures -> RE: How do i stop Military ships (12/22/2010 11:45:02 AM)

So you did, but as this exchange shows people probably wont pick up on it unless you say something like "original DW" or the version number (currently the original is at version 1.0.6.0).

They really should have a sub forum for DW. Because you are getting everything in this forum at the moment. Perhaps Erik can look at a setting up a sub forum.
