VictorH -> V1.40 and System still Locks Up! (8/31/2002 9:22:03 AM)

I installed v 1.40 and my system locks up almost immediately after I use the zoom key. I scroll from New Guinea to Guadacanal and Voila, the entire system locks and I have to hit reset. This is the same problem I have had since buying the game and through each interim release. I'm very disappointed, I don't have any problems with any other game I have.

Hi Victor

This sounds like a video card or driver issue. What video card are you using.

David

David,

This appears to indicate the old zoom problem from http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21689 is still with us.

This appears to be a TNT2 video card issue (VictorH please confirm). I had this problem and fixed it, not by upgrading drivers but by downgrading the video driver to a non-Nvidia driver that predated any Geforce enhancements. I haven't had any problems since though I can symphathise with VictorH as this fault is annoying.

Please go to the thread above for my fault finding results.

Cheers,
Reg.

I have a Diamond Viper V770 - Ultra: Riva TNT2 Ultra. I am running NVIDIA's v30.82 Detonator Driver.

I read the previous post about using older drivers but don't agree that going backwards is a solution to this problem. I had a lot of problems with other games and applications when I was using Diamond's drivers. When I began using NVIDIA's drivers all those problems went away. The only problem I have is with the zoom function in Uncommon Valor. I don't have any problems with any other application or game and don't see any reason to devolve just for that.

Even though you had problems with Diamond's drivers with other games, have you had a chance to see if that driver indeed fixes the problem up with UV? I understand that of cousre you wouldnt want to use this driver for other games but its a way of narrowing down this problem for you.

I dont want to to sound like I am trying to fob you off, because I am not, but is it important for you to use the Zoom? I know I dont use it. I have in testing to make sure its ok.

VictorH,

Did you think it's worth trying one of the later Diamond drivers?? The Diamond Multimedia web site is gone but I found this ftp site which seems to host all the drivers they released.

ftp://ftp.diamondmm.com/pub/display/viper/viper_v770

Have a look, there may be something there. I know it is not ideal but it might be worth a try, even if it is for faultfinding only.

By the way, you're obviously not getting the system icon corruption that I was getting with the latest Nvidia drivers. I wonder what the difference there is??

Cheers,
Reg.
