BletchleyGeek -> Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/24/2010 1:20:03 PM)

I am starting this thread to collect ideas, suggestions and requests regarding adding scenarios (or modifying existing ones) to WiTE. While WiTE is the best computer simulation of the Eastern Front I've seen (and even better than anything I've had dreamt of) I miss more scenarios - GCs are great, indeed, but I think WiTE engine can do much better than many existing games already covering these campaigns/battles/operations.

This is not meant to be a closed list, on the contrary it's meant to receive suggestions of new scenarios. I will be collecting the votes casted by people and updating this post accordingly.

1) Operation Uranus-Saturn 42, covering initial Soviet offensives, Wintergewitter and the battles over the Chir river line. (work in progress: el hefe, scenario in the works "Red Army Resurgent")
2) Wintergewitter/Saturn (variant of the above after Stalingrad encirclement has been already achieved)
3) Operation Mars 42
4) Retreat from Leningrad, AGN campaigning during Spring-Autumn 44 (work in progress: el hefe).
5) Korsun Pocket 44 (work in progress: bcgames)
6) Bagration 44, depicting the AGC battles, variants covering what-if situations where German High Command wasn't deceived by Soviet maskirovka would be very interesting. (planning: el hefe).
7) Kharkov Early 43 (the famed Von Manstein's "backhand blow")
8) AG South Ukraine successful defense in March-April 1944 (one of the Eastern Front "forgotten battles")
9) Kursk 43, covering initial offensive by the Wehrmacht (work in progress: Don).
10) Race to the Dniepr 43 the post-Kursk battles over Northern Ukraine (work in progress: Don).
11) Ukraine 43-44, covering AG North and South Ukraine late 43 - early 44(?) battles (work in progress: el hefe).
12) Wintergewitter & Chir Battles: Smaller version of 2) covering Manstein effort to relieve Stalingrad as well as the defense of the Chir river and Luftwaffe airfields.
13) Operation Star 1943: Voronezh Front offensive to recapture Kursk and Voronezh
14) Operation Gallop 1943: Konev (?) offensive to recapture Voroshilovgrad
15) Ironman Campaign scenarios: Covering what-if's either exclusively or combined

  • Germany featuring a fully mobilized war economy in 1941
  • Red Army forces deployed in a slightly more sensible way on 22nd June 1941
  • Soviet pre-war doctrine implemented more in depth but with less breadth (i.e. less mechanized corps but better trained, morale, supplies and with full TOEs).

Well, you already have several of these in production.

I have 'Retreat from Leningrad' which covers number 4. I also have inherited a Uranus scenario from Number 1. I am currently working on a Ukraine 43-44 which would cover number 10. I also plan on a Bagration scenario as well. I know Don is working on a Kursk and a Race to the Dnieper which would also cover number 9 and 10.

Those are great news [:)] Updated the initial post with this info.

Gonnosuke -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/25/2010 10:24:52 PM)

I don't have the game yet so forgive me if this is already covered or if game mechanics make it impossible but it would be nice to be able to play out one of the biggest "What if?" scenarios of the entire conflict: What if the Germans had not delayed the invasion and launched Barbarossa May 15th?

With or without worn out tanks & crews and muddy ground?

Preferably without as I suspect the GC is mission impossible for the Germans. A few extra weeks of good weather might allow them to make a go of it.

Great_Ajax -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/26/2010 4:09:55 PM)

You would also have to figure out where the Axis units were at this time as not all of them had arrived at their assault positions yet.

RJL5188 -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/26/2010 5:08:48 PM)

awesome!!! looking fwd to some great games with the smaller scenarios...

i cant wait for Kursk...nothing like thousands of tanks on the battlefield...

the greatest armor battle in history!!!

Great_Ajax -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/26/2010 5:13:23 PM)

I submitted my 'Decision in the Ukraine 43-44' to the development forum for review. Maybe we'll release it in an upcoming patch as an extra.

Alan Sharif -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/27/2010 4:24:50 PM)

Thanks to all of you working on scenarios. These will make a fantastic game even better.

bcgames -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/28/2010 6:06:47 AM)

After Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket, I'm going to try Operation Mars. I just received in the mails today Glantz's book on the subject; it looks like a fascinating topic that has yet to receive its due.

Mifune -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/28/2010 6:42:37 AM)

HPS has it as one of their titles.

bcgames -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/28/2010 6:44:52 AM)

Scratch that then.

Cavalry Corp -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (12/28/2010 11:42:26 AM)

The HPS game is Battalion , 2 hour turns

Your would be very different.

Nice selection. How about Star and Gallop? Which along with Little Saturn (Saturn was never launched in its original form)
led eventually to the back-handed blow. Of course the Soviets could just stop after wiping out a few allied minor armies and the
wait for the backhanded blow to fall on deaf ears and then castle and backhand the forehanded backhand.

GFelz -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/14/2011 11:29:29 PM)

el hefe,

I was going to port The Gamers "Enemy at the Gates" board game into WitE. They have already done all the heavy lifting with the unit and map research.

The unit scale is Bn's - Division. The map is 5 mile hexes and half week turns and covers 19 November '42 to mid-March 1943. It includes unit withdrawls and reinforcements.

Would this information be of any use to you?

Great_Ajax -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/15/2011 3:14:08 PM)

I appreciate the offer. I just submitted the scenario to the test group this week so most of the work has been done ;)

Roger that. Looking forward to it.

Commanderski -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/15/2011 11:00:40 PM)

If you finished the ones you are working on that would be great! Where would we be able to find these when they are ready?

Great_Ajax -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/15/2011 11:19:32 PM)

I'm sure they will be released with one of the regular patches once we get some testing done on them.

Pawsy -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/16/2011 10:19:24 AM)

+1

great news would vote for number 7, Von Manstein back hand blow :-)

Fraucha -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/17/2011 7:46:51 AM)

I would like to see 4, 10 and 11 !!!

Skanvak -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/17/2011 9:24:59 PM)

I would like a scenario on the battle of smolensk only (Panzer grüppe Guderain/accross the niepr like scenario). I like small scenario.

Otherwise the Karkhov 43 is appealing to me.

Pford -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/17/2011 10:31:43 PM)

Yes, more small scenarios. Even 2-3 turns, e.g., Manstein's attempted relief of Stalingrad.

johnfmonahan -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/30/2011 7:35:28 PM)

Yes, smaller scenarios.

1jasonoz -> RE: Scenario Wishlist (and Poll) (1/31/2011 8:42:51 AM)

I'd like a "what if" section.

What if Stalin had listened to his generals and left the Soviet Army along the old pre-september 39 line(NKVD border guards excepted), rather than the one negotiated with Hitler?

What if Hitler didn't agree to allow Stalin to take half of Poland, rather let him take the Baltic states and a part of Rumania instead; would this greatly help the Germans and alter the campaign significantly with the Germans starting many hexes to the east than they did in 41?

What if the Finn's were more aggresive in 41 and attacked past their stop lines?

What if the Germans went to a war economy immediatley upon the invasion?

What if the Germans didn't treat the former soviet areas as conquered areas, rather as liberated areas and were able to then source resources (manpower etc) from these zones?

What if Germany decided that the Italians could take some damage in the Balkans and started their attack in May 15 1942, rather than when they did?

Just some thuoghts.[&o]
