Nibelung44 -> tech progress? (12/24/2010 3:35:15 PM)

Am I the only one where the techs fields progresses by big jump? Sometime I even get massive amounts of tech breakthroughs, like 2 techs in each 3 fields at once.

To give an example, in 2760 november I'm at 0% in all 3 fields, having discovered them all at once.

Months passes. No changes, except just now in my game: we are now in 2761.04.30. Techs % changed to 73-36-73 % !

Now, there is a bit of consistency because the 36% tech costs twice as much as the others, still... Why the game only calculates % of tech every 5 months or so???

Set the cost to 999, even retiring or discovering a big tech advance barely makes a dent in the basic level stuff. It's great if you want slow research.

Have to agree here about slow research the counter next to the slider is for me still the best single thing I have ever seen in a 4x game, for getting the starting galaxy exactly how I wish to play the game rather than a preset bunch.

I think he was asking about how slow the tech counters update, not how slow the progress is. On the topic of how slow they progress, the techs double in research time for each level of tech down the tree, and if there is a gap of 1 space, the next one costs 4 times as much, which is a very long time.

About the tech update rate, I've been curious about that myself, it's especially noticeable in the early game if you watch the numbers on the tech button, they change in large chunks, not in smooth shifts. I'm wondering if the change rate is affected by game speed (4x, 2x, x0.5 etc...) Or if it's an engine limitation.
