chuckj118 -> How does Air attack on ships work? (12/24/2010 5:27:20 PM)

Does anyone know how air attacks on task forces works within the game?

In anti-air attack formations the larger ships such as carriers are placed in the center and battleships, etc are placed in rings around them at 500 to 1,000 yards. For this reason where a major AA ship is in the TF should have major impact as should the range and accuracy of its weapons. Is this simulated at all?

Dive Bombers would only be subjected to fire from the major AA guns of ships they passover at 10,000+ and then the short-range AAA from the actual ship attacked (and possibly one or more of its close neighbors).

Torpedo planes would have to suffer much more small but rapid fire from any ship it got close to coming in.

Glide and Level bombers would also suffer from different sets of AA weapons depending on altitude, speed, entry point into the TF screen, etc, etc.

I am just curious if all of this is taken into account. It would require some major coding to accomplish so I am guessing that some middle ground approach was used?

If someone knows of an older thread on this let me know.

Thanks for any comments.
