BoerWar -> Withdrawl from battle error (12/30/2010 4:49:43 PM)

Marshall,

Wellington successfully withdrew from battle against France at Leghorn (Withdraw vs Outflank). He should have moved south toward Rome where his closest depot is however the game withdrew him 2 areas away and in the completely wrong direction. Could you please move Wellington and his army to the area south of Leghorn?

I have already emailed the host game file to you.

Thanks,
Doug

P.S. GB, Turkey and Spain all have voluntary access to Austrian territory so that should not be an issue.

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/1/2011 5:36:38 PM)

Hi Marshall,

I just noticed another problem with the way this withdrawl was adjudicated. At the beginning of the battle there was a large allied fleet in port at Leghorn which included a couple of British fleets, the Swedish fleet and Russian fleet (1stHS - 14 HS, 2ndHS - 14 HS, 1st LS - 6 LS). After the battle the GB ships present retreated to Genoa (ok). However, the Swedish fleet (Russian owned) retreated all the way to Stockholm and the 3 Russian fleets appear to have disappeared. Could you please restore those fleets in Corfu and move the Swedes there as well?

Here is a before screenshot.

Thanks,
Doug

Dancing Bear -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/2/2011 1:01:02 PM)

Hi Doug
does everyone have access to Spanish territory? Was the access granted recently? Where any of these allies former enemies three months ago (i.e, end of temporary access)?

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/4/2011 3:04:22 AM)

Hi DB,

All are allied to one another and have voluntary access to Spanish territory.

We did have an issue several game months prior with Spain allying with Russia and Austria, but seems to have been working fine with the Russian fleet having access to the port of Leghorn prior to the battle.

r,
Doug

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/4/2011 12:30:17 PM)

I've got your game (And a hundred others :-0) and will be looking at it soon...

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/4/2011 11:50:58 PM)

OK, Thanks. Welcome back from vacation.

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/10/2011 11:50:57 PM)

Marshall,

I received your email on Friday and had to send it back. The Russian fleet is still missing. Could you please update it?

Thanks again,
Doug

P.S. An in game editor that would allow hosts to make fixes like adding/removing forces would be great.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/12/2011 12:23:36 PM)

I'll take a look when I get a chance!
I agree BUT I got to get this thing back to stable before I add this stuff to the GM ability!

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/17/2011 11:50:44 PM)

Marshall,

Any chance we can get some help with this before we start losing players? Just need to add the Russian fleets back in to file file you half fixed before.

Thanks,
Doug

I will try to look at it here possible today :-0

Dancing Bear -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/20/2011 3:00:30 AM)

Any idea why this weird retreat/withdraw happened in the first place. I notice that most of these retreat errors happen in minor neutrals.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/20/2011 12:40:10 PM)

Well, in fact it looks like it was withdrawing to the closest depot in a valid supply chain. The depot in Tuscany is not in a valid supply chain and if you count allowable moves to Naples and toward the depot in Provence then you should see them as equal. The problem is that I cannot find in the rules where the retreat is toward the nearest depot "in a valid supply chain" or would this be assumed? If yes then the above retreat would be valid and preferred since it is also closer to London as well. Odd scenario??????????????

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/21/2011 1:10:05 AM)

OK, This is getting ridiculous. No, the retreat was not legit. Wellington retreated 2 areas. Unless the rules have been rewritten a retreat moves one area. I'm aware that the depot in Tuscany is no longer in supply (see P.S. below). Wellington could have retreated either to Genoa or to the south either way is equal distant to a valid supply source however the closest British controlled territory is Naples so it makes sense to go south.

Either way Marshall, you already fixed the location of the armies two weeks ago. What you did not fix was to return the Russian fleets which disappeared from the game when the retreat occurred. I explained this when I returned the files to you on Jan 7th.

All we need is for you to add the Russian fleets (1stHS - 14 HS, 2ndHS - 14 HS, 1st LS - 6 LS) described above and in the email to the game board at Corfu.

Sorry if this is a little terse, we've been waiting 3 weeks now and apparently have gone back to square one. I will resend you the files that have the armies already fixed. Once again, all we need at this point is for the Russian fleets to be re-introduced to the game.

Thanks,
Doug

p.s. the supply chain from Naples to Tuscany got chopped when GB transferred control of Papacy to Austria. All GB forces in Papacy were removed despite the fact that GB has access to Austrian territory. A bug?

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/21/2011 1:49:15 PM)

I did not say that it was legit??? I was merely explaining what the engine was doing and why it chose this retreat.
I apologize for the time delay. I am behind for sure.

BoerWar -> RE: Withdrawl from battle error (1/22/2011 1:16:03 AM)

Hi Marshall,

We're back in business. Thanks for the help.

Doug
