No still not enough change for me. One time only internet connection to validate the game is all I will stand for. Having to validate everytime I startup the game is still a no no.

I agree,....I still wont buy this way either,......but at least they realized that the DRM is hurting sales.

ilovestrategy -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/3/2011 3:57:38 PM)

This is still not acceptable. Online activation is ok but I don't see how having to be online to start a single player game is any different than having to be on to play. You should not have to be online to play a single player game.

Lützow -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/3/2011 4:10:02 PM)

Same old story. This DRM merely prevents piracy in regard of an audience which refrain from pirated copies anyway, because they disapprove or simply don't know how to deal with it. For the rest, however, it doesn't matter if a game just performs a start-check or requires a permanent i-net connection, because these people use cracked versions which cancel either.

Obsolete -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/3/2011 4:21:28 PM)

Ubi is on my Boycott list, doesn't matter what they do anymore from this point. I've seen their TRUE colours, and there is an old saying somewhere.... about those who bite off the hands that feed them...

bairdlander2 -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/3/2011 4:43:38 PM)

What is Gameshadow?I bought Silent Hunter 3 and can only get updates through Gameshadow,which does not seem to work,cant log in or create account[&:]

Glad I was able to get Universe:X3:Terran before their stupid DRM scheme. Sadly I guess there will be no more X3:Universe games without it?

a7v -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/3/2011 6:24:13 PM)

I once was screwed when I bought Silent Hunter 3 which had Starforce. That bloody program killed my System and I had to make a complete new setup. I brought the game back to my dealer (Saturn) and got my money back. I only bought it again recently for 10 € when I was shure that the DRM had been removed. I really wanted to play the Grey wolves mod.

Rainer

@Diablo1

I think you may be confusing Egosoft with Ubisoft? As far as I know there's no connection between the two.

lol and I thought he was trying to be funny. I always thought UBIsoft did X3 as they are so close in name. Now I think I made an account on the wrong official forum. [8|]

And probably ranted and raved and everyone else is wondering what the heck you are going on about.

At least you spread the cheer around.

+1.
And Starforce driver DOES NOT WORK with Windows 7. I had to use a no-CD to play with my ORIGINAL game. NO comment.

Been there, and gone through that kind of HELL before. Even was told the problem was my hardware and I should BUY A NEW CD- DRIVE.  This, after I was told my CD must be defective, and to make another trip to the store to exchange for another (Oh sure...).

My solution, was to finally invest a few hours into learning what's new in the cracking world, then we were good to go two evenings later...  (no comment either)

I read on another forum that Ubisoft's DRM still exists for Settlers 7 according to this post.

Don't believe the hype, at least as far as Settlers 7 is concerned.

I will promise you, S7 will do a check in the game to ensure a network connection. I promise. You can occasionally play for 5-10 minutes with a dead connection, but eventually it pings it, and if you're offline the game pauses and puts up a screen telling you the game can proceed once a network connection is re-established.

Confirmed by me, 1-1-11, 11:44 and 11:51 pm.

Promise.

As much as I would like to play the game, I won't buy it with Ubisoft's current DRM.

(I won't buy a game infested with StarForce either for reasons already mentioned in this thread.)

DampSquib -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/4/2011 7:37:24 PM)

The last full priced Ubisoft game i brought was Anno 1404.

Oh and Silent Hunter 2 from GOG...in the sale.

Would love to buy others....but that change doesn't go far enough.
Oh well.

Grey Wolf's mod is amazing!!! I purchased Silent Hunter 3 years ago and was fortunate enough to get a later version without Starforce, it's running well on my new Windows 7 rig...

I also purchased Silent Hunter 4 from Half Price Books for 6 dollars, another fun game and thankfully no serious security hassles for SH4 either. SH5 I wont do, don't like it's only half the campaign and the DRM stuff.

Anthropoid -> RE: Ubisoft and DRM (1/7/2011 9:58:18 PM)

Was Ubisoft involved in Call of Juarez 2. That game had potential but I couldn't get past about chapter 5.

Yep, they published it.
