Chris21wen -> Strike Force (1/3/2011 5:18:11 PM)

Nothing in the manual, nothing in the forum.

What is a strike force, how is it used, what is the difference with it and a fleet etc

WoodMan -> RE: Strike Force (1/3/2011 5:46:51 PM)

I'd like to know the same.  How do you even make a Strike Force, what does it do?

Igard -> RE: Strike Force (1/3/2011 6:31:37 PM)

I don't know either. [&:]

lordxorn -> RE: Strike Force (1/3/2011 7:21:18 PM)

Refering to the Empire Policy Fleet Formation screen?

The full manual players like me didn't even know what you were referring to. lol

I am guessing a Strike Force is for Raiding, where Fleets would be for invasions?

Someone test this out and observe, then report back here. I am interested to know.

moonraker65 -> RE: Strike Force (1/3/2011 7:37:20 PM)

I'd say Strike Force is for raiding as they only ever have 4-6 ships at most although composition seems to vary.

Romtos -> RE: Strike Force (1/3/2011 8:27:53 PM)

I never get mission suggestions for strike forces, only for fleets.

BigWolfChris -> RE: Strike Force (1/3/2011 8:57:43 PM)

A strike force is a type of fleet that is usually smaller and normally consisting of only attack ships (ie. no troop transports)

It's more of an AI thing to prevent the it from only having large fleets (we humans can easily make as many different types of fleets as we want)
The option is the policy screen is for human players who let the AI control fleets

Spacecadet -> RE: Strike Force (1/4/2011 2:47:52 AM)

Yes, a Strike Force is smaller than a Fleet.

I'm thinking it's 6 to 8 ships (?) but don't remember exactly on that.
I also thought there was another grouping (smaller) but I'll have to dig around a while to verify that one.

The way I perceive it (and play it);

A strike force is 4 to 8 ships whose usual goal is a direct
destroy mission. Typically mining bases, enemy research and
monitoring stations and the like. Also, they normally operate
within a short to mid-range distance from a friendly/allied
colony or base.

Fleets are usually organized according to purpose and amount of
force. Typically 10 to 20 ships or more of various types. Defense
fleets are normally the smallest, 10 or more ships guarding/defending
a colonized system or system of high regard (Loros, Korrabian in
system, etc.)set on auto. Assault fleets are from 12 to 20 vessels
or more (usually capital ships/cruisers) intend on mass destruction
of a pre-planned target (enemy regional capital, important starbase, etc.)
They also usually have a tanker/resupplyship and constructor along for
refuel and repairing. Plus the constructor can build a gasmining station.
Whereas invasion fleets are usually intended to capture/conquer enemy
colonies/homeworlds intact by troop invasion. Normally a bit larger
(15 ~ 25 ships that include troop transports) in size and more varied
in content (a few destroyers and escorts as cannon fodder to take heat
off the transports).
Just my opinion and the way I see it. Anyone can use fleets and their
makeup according to need. [:)]

Yeah, it's an AI thing.
