V22 Osprey -> Early invasion of Guadalcanal? (1/5/2011 8:48:32 PM)

It's late Feb of 1942 in my GC against the AI. Singapore has fallen, Ragoon has fallen, and Java and Sumatra is in the process of falling. I kept those reinforcements headed to Singapore and they are resting at Darwin. Port Moresby is mined, has plenty of Fs and DBs, PT boats, with aussie troops in transport. Those Singapore troops in Darwin are begging to do a counterattack.[:D]

Against the AI, sure. Against a decent human opponent, hah!

Cap Mandrake -> RE: Early invasion of Guadalcanal? (1/5/2011 10:43:48 PM)

I would definitely advise an early invasion. Try to get there before about 9:30 when the sand flies hatch. After 11:00 and it will just be miserably hot.

I donīt think Guadalcanal is *that* important. I will probably try another route in my game....

The AI isn't a problem, land and take it, bring enough supplies and a Base Force so you have aviation support, drop a squadron or two fighters and you won't have any issues. Once the AF is repaired, move the carriers away to re-arm and such.

Guadalcanal against the AI isn't historically hard, against a decent PBEM player you might as well forget even getting near it, as right now in my game I control Lunga, Noumea, Luganville.

In my PBEM game my opponent attempted to do early Guadalcanal invasion (I play Japanese). Result was that I was able to sink all USA carriers only one carrier was able escape badly damaged back to base.

I did not lose any carriers as sunken only two carriers as badly damaged witch both where able to return Japan to get repairs. I have about total control of the sea now and I can block virtually any USA invasion with my remaining carriers with minimum fear of USA carriers.
