Joe D. -> Sluggish after WW1_Patch_v1.0.8l (1/12/2011 9:03:04 PM)

I just bought the game and only ran it a few times before updating to the latest official patch, but my machine now seems to get sluggish, and I can't even open the Jutland scenario.

I've never had a problem like this with my previous AGEOD games on my:

Del Dimension E510
Pent D CPU at 2.8 GHz
2 GB RAM
Radeon x600 256 hypermemory

IF it's the patch, how can I undo it w/o re-installing game?

Personne?

Try to launch the game in single CPU mode:
Start menu if Windows > World War One > World War One (single CPU mode)

OK, but ever since I upgraded to the latest patch (l), I no longer see the intro to the game play, so I suspect there's something wrong with this patch.

Is there an earlier, safer patch?

If you don't see the Intro avi movie, the possible causes are:

1) the "Play Intro" option is currently disabled in the Configure Game tool
2) you installed the game with one language (i.e.: French) and then the patch with another language (i.e.: English), so the new WW1.EXE patched file seeks for the French AVI and doesn't find it, so you don't see any intro.

After using the single CPU option, I am now seeing the intro movie and the game is more playable, i.e., not as sluggish, so I assume I have the correct languages.

However, I haven't played anything more in-depth than a short scenario, so when I attempt loading a campaign, then I will really know if this option is a fix, or not.

After several days worth of play, I discovered that I don't always see the intro movie; what language is this latest patch?

Hello everybody,

a new official patch 1.08L for WW1 Gold is online!

Here you can download the patch for the full version:
http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/3rd...ch_v1.0.8l.exe

Does "fr" stand for French? If it's for the French version, why was the above text en Anglais?

calvinus72 -> RE: Sluggish after WW1_Patch_v1.0.8l (1/17/2011 8:15:58 PM)

Latest patch is multi-language. So I suppose you select English language when you install it. So why you see "FR" inside the WW1.ini file? [&:][&:]
What happens if you change "FR" into "UK" and save the file?
Are you logged in with PC Administrator priviledges and is UAC off?

I don't know, but when you double-click on the icon, English is the default language!

calvinus72 -> RE: Sluggish after WW1_Patch_v1.0.8l (1/18/2011 8:17:30 PM)

So I suppose you confirmed the default language (english) but then you see "FR" inside the WW1.ini file. Now the question is: why the patch installer did not overwrite the WW1.ini file? An answer could be: missing priviledges (not logged in as PC Administrator and/or UAC on). [;)]

No, the "fr" text was from your post in another thread about the new patch, which, when it is double-clicked for installation, has a drop=down menu for the language with English already as the default choice.

My game text is in English, yet sometimes I get the game intro movie, and sometimes I don't, but most of the time the game doesn't run sluggish using the single CPU option.

I'm not sure if this is a stability issue -- as the game sometimes closes -- or a bug, but so far WW1 Gold seems to work for me most of the time, so far.
