I know it's a bit hard for some to accept that there are other wargames out there besides WitE [:D]

38 - a bit more than last year, about average for the past 7 years this election has been going on.

I know many a Grognard voice their displeasure at the mention of eye candy- but wow!

Graphically wise, its 2010 and many of these games look like they come from the C64 era.

I admit WtE is not bad on the eye, in fact I suppose it could have been worse.
But seriously folks no matter what is under the hood, we have to stare at these things for hours.
Something nice to look at, some fresh tunes that mix it up a little wont hurt with the sales- hell they might even improve them.

When I saw both Battles from the Bulge & Decisive Campaigns - the Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris, I was turned off purely by the graphics, both game wise and with the interface.

Sure, I know what's under the hood is important and I maybe superficial about this, but can't we have our cake and eat it too?

I love eye candy just like the next guy, but in a hardc0re strategy game I want functionality first.

Having said that, while I love the map in WitE and think it really looks great, the counters could've used some more love. Maybe resemble wooden boardgame pieces.

Oh well, there's always modding.

Well, it did come out in December 2010!

That's pretty good considering no one had it more than a month before the end of 2010.

I own Battles from the Bulge and WITE and both are certainly Gold and Silver material.

I feel BFTB hasn't garnered enough attention comapred to a title such as WITE, so that Gold award is certainly well deserved. The engine behind BFTB is absolutely incredible. People who haven't buy BFTB are really missing something. Very different from an IGOUGO type of wargame but the tactical/operational feeling BFTB provides is unrivalled.

I own HTTR and I feel I didn't miss anything by not buying BFTB. I know I will buy it soon but it's not an instant buy decision for me as compared to WITE.

On the newsgroup the election is open until mid-January for this very reason: to allow for games published late in the year the opportunity to affirm themselves.

I must say that WitE was an instant hit [:)] In late 2010 BftB looked to be the obvious winner, but WitE all of sudden changed it. If you look at the score you will notice how it ended up being a close race.

It's funny, but it's almost always a close race in years which we consider Good Years (tm) for wargaming :

2004 : runner-up Battles in Normandy scored 80% of the points of winner War in the Pacific
2005 : runner-up Hearts of Iron 2 scored 70% of the points of winner Crown of Glory
2006 : runner-up Birth of America scored 75% of the points of winner Conquest of the Aegean
2007 : runner-up Advanced Tactics scored 75% of the points of winner AGEod's American Civil War

Only in the weaker 2008 and 2009 there was a clear winner :

2008 : runner-up War Plan Pacific scored 55% of the points of winner Panzer Command - Kharkov
2009 : runner-up Empire Total War scored 45% of the points of winner Warship Combat : Navies at War
