Tavior -> Ancient Guardian Grabbing Lost Colony of Player's Race (1/21/2011 3:57:18 PM)

What happened is I found the ruin and rush to grab the Lost Colony. Only to find Ancient Guardian already had an escort in orbit around the planet to patrol and guard constructor. I had to used the game editor to "fix" it.

Forget to mention the file name will be "Ancient Guardian Stole Colony.zip"

The ancients are not supposed to be interested in expanding.
This is expansion.

I know, I did not imagine they would not do it at all
maybe at a slower pace than others? not really sure

The only time I ever see Ancient Guardian do anything other than mining outposts and patrol fleets is when there is a Securan, blue female alien with happy bonus*, home world within a sector or 2 causing a migration toward Securan home world.

I believe that ROTS need little more migration than currently because I can remember having a 5-species empire in Master of Orion 3 without so much trying hard. Grant MOO 3 has less species bonus beyond various combat strength due to racial combat bonus. So you could cause a migration to a frontier planet that has no government YET but do have alien colonist present. I understand that may be a little odd concept of having an "independment" beginning colony with ROTS model.

One idea for a good model of migration in ROTS would been when colony are nearing MAX population at the moment would cause overcrowd in the cities, a little like real life India right now, would cause people want to buy ticket off world toward fresh 30 million populated planets. *Hint profit for private sector and building more passenger ships*

Data -> RE: Ancient Guardian Grabbing Lost Colony of Player's Race (1/22/2011 4:53:59 PM)

this is how migration was intended, the pedia actually states that overcrowded pop migrates to near, less overcrowded, colonies
but we don't actually know what near or overcrowded means in AI terms, anyway there is more than a few requests for improving this aspect of the game

You are right data, they do take colony from the biggest, crowd colony and migration them somewhere else. However You see the place in galaxy map where red and blue meet? I own the Naxx planet with 2600 Million, barely 78 million from full. Other than being hostile with the other two Naxx colony under Secarun control. There was no other unusual activities, other than being a major refuel for exploration south part. In the next picture is 22 years later at the maxed out Naxx colony with 88 passenger ships in empire plus 7 Ice colony with barely enough population to earn tax from.

You are right the passenger does their job but they are not apparently very good, perhaps ineffective. So I want to see Colonies with full population building an "One" time passenger to use on their own without interrupt normal docking/colony ship/resupply/constructor building. So passenger ships are not completely tied up by "priority" migration over riding normal tourist and migration between empires.

I am not too familiar with ROTS code to determine if such approach is feasible.

See the point I am trying to make?

Hi Tavior

I've changed this in the next update so that the Ancient Guardians no longer take ownership of lost colonies.

Thanks
Elliot

How can you really get trade income that big?

I'm researching trade techs, giving big gifts to everyone, being friends with everyone, installing mutual defense pacts, and I cant make money from trade... only 5-10k after hours and hours of playing...

thanks to resort bases. Or I cant manage my fleets.

do you also have the big triad trading? loros, zentabia and and....frak me, i forgot the third one

I also encountered this "ancient guardina stole lost colony" problem too but I did not noticed that it is a bug. so I continued to play and colonize the other planets.

My game client doesnt allow me design ships so I cant play the game "seriously" but just hanging around the stars and messing up with stupid aliens. Provoking pirates and aliens to attac other empires, selling big guns to lesser races and manipulating the galaxy for just fun.
