Cyrano dX -> Strategic and Divisional tips (1/27/2011 10:37:57 PM)

Hi, new to CoG EE

Any tips as to which divisional upgrades go really well together and which troops to focus on in particular.
For example I read by going through the forums that the Woodsmen one is particularly effective for Light infantry. Any more examples from experience ?

Are there strategic upgrades that most people feel are "must have" or are they all personal preference ?

Any tips as to how to deploy ships in Quick Combat setup ?

Thank you.

There is no perfect combination that I know of. There are too many variables. In the 109 MP game I did create one full corp with the woodsman trait-and they kick butt-in the woods. In the MP game the bonus is in an assault or counter assault percentage boost.

If you are playing Spain there is little reason to go for winter fighting abilities-or for Russia to go for desert fighting abilities. It depends on what nation you are playing to some degree.

The doctrines for increases in size of artillery seems very worthwhile and should have a higher priority IMO. Virtually all doctrines and unit upgrades are worthwhile, but you can't get them all.

As Maestro states, there is no real correct answer.
What you need to ask yourself is what you will be doing with your army, and if you play vs the AI or a Pbem.

If your army is for defensive purposes, I would go with divisional upgrades that gives your division "staying power", upgrades that gives a boost to morale would be a good bet here.
If you play detailed battles, I would try to give your cavalery the upgrades that allows them to make formation change rolls at a higher level (I do not recall the name atm).
Artillery in detailed battles could benefit from the "sustained fire" ability as this will result in fewer casualties.

In a pbem game where you will be using your army offensively, the forages ability is a nice one (as is it for nations with limited cashflow since you might not need supply depots all the time).

So my suggestion is to look at what you plan to do with the armies you have, and upgrade in accordance.
