What sre some veteran players thoughts on when to go Deliberate vs Hasty Attacks. I get difference of deliberate has more prep / planning thus more combat power and uses more MPs, hasty uses less MPs but less combat power and limited to single hex coordination.

Just curious what other players out there are using and when they switch between the two.

If it is not a sure thing, then I will deliberate attack. If I have already punted the target a couple times or I have a massive overkill of combat power, he will get a hasty attack.

If he in any fort level, I will deliberate attack him after turn 1.

This one is kind of obvious, but any city or urban terrain I go deliberate.  I usually go delib on swamp hexes but that's suppose to change coming with this next patch. Assaulting across major rivers is another one.

Even level 1?
I'll use Hasty attacks on level 1 forts in quite a few situations, including swamps, minor rivers, and heavy woods.

From my (less experienced than 2ndACR's) perspective, it's Level 2 forts that are always worth re-considering your Hasty attacks.

For less experienced folks like me, remember this, too about your Hasty attacks: if your HQ hasn't moved and you're within 5 hexes, SUs are available. That makes a bid difference to me. For deliberate attacks, you only need to be within 5 hexes.

Not 100% of the time, but the way a German advance goes, a lot of my units can get pretty tired. I don't want to lose and have the defeat, so yes, a level 1 is liable to get a deliberate attack so the others can advance.

I usually do hasty attacks on level 1 forts also.

The other thing I do a lot is do multi-division hasty attacks versus single division deliberate attacks. Hasty attacks are half the CV of a deliberate but 2 divisions on a hasty attack are the same as 1 on deliberate and it saves MPs (3 times as much for non-motorized and 5.3 times as much for motorized). Obviously, there are many situations where it is not easy to get the divisions in the same hex for a hasty attack or I really want to advance with one of the divisions and do not want to waste any of its MPs on an unnecessary attack. Also, if the HQ has moved the only way its SUs will commit to the battle is through a deliberate attack, though that is never a sure thing.

I found another good use of Hasty, to train up units. If you have 3 divisions with 70ish morale, hasty attack with a stack of 3 will train up 3 times faster than using deliberate attack.

As the Soviets I am now beating back the AI to the German border.

All initial assaults are DA, it's the only way to maximize high casualties plus lower casualties for me.

HA I use on already defeated forces.

HA are very bloody otherwise.

My pet hate are security divisions they always cause 1000 casualties.

I found that training as a Soviet is a good way to learn the DA dance. Wow! When you get the Germans in a little scenario like Blau (I in my case) you punch through with DA and destroy the Soviets without too much trouble.

It's really a hard to get much momentum as a Soviet at least as me in 1942 against the Normal AI at least compared to me in 1942 as the Axis against Normal soviet AI, however, to punch holes, I think you should always make deliberate attacks. Better to get to your objective in an extra turn with the enemy routed or destroyed than get there sooner with the enemy intact and your forces in bad shape.

I agree the casualties from HA are far too low for an engagement. It's better to destroy the majority of the enemy with a DA right from the get go.

Delib attack with infantry...panzers try to do attack at all, if you must use hasty-thou i hate doing that also.  Once you are where you want to be with those panzers, outside a flag or an important city and you are at that key moment of crossing a river or turning the tide in your small plan-delib attack if you must.

The turn immediately after a HQ buildup has a lot to do with when you want to delib or hasty
