findmeifyoucan -> What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/4/2011 5:16:30 PM)

After the latest patch Scen 2, dec 9/41 all my mp pts are gone. I have just 7 left in the pool to start the next turn when I produce 897 per day. Even if it is production per month I should have more than 7 and it has never happened to me before playing the Japanese. I am not doing anything crazy just what I usually do with small incremental increases of a number of my factories. I can't do them all as the supply has not had a chance to distribute properly yet. Lot's of time now as I have no mp pts to expend the supply with.

Is this a glitch or a permanent change by the designer's. If the latter then I will have to down grade to the pre-patch upgrade. lol

Furthur note that I find it hard to believe that I managed to spend 26,000 mp pts in a single turn which is what the Japanese start the game with after the pre-historical Pearl harbour attack.

Zip up the before and after saves and attach here.

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/5/2011 5:34:31 AM)

I only have the end of my moves for Dec 8,41 and beginning of Dec 9, 41 but at the end of Dec 8 I only had 2800 mp pts and after the combat turn just 7 mp pts for Dec 9,41. Wasn't looking at beginning of Dec 8,41 as I was not expecting to have next to no mp pts at the beginning of the game after pre turn.

Can't paste my files here but will email them to you

Cute, I notice you are from Sydney, Australia. I was born there! :-)

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/5/2011 3:19:58 PM)

Just to give you a comparison in my PBEM game Scen 2 I had 5,809 mp pts to start for the Japanese while when I started a game against the AI same Scen 2, same options all around I had 34,710 mp pts to start. So something definitely went very wrong here.

I spent about 2500 pts the first turn and the rest evaporated during the next combat turn.

Maybe the MP's pts went on holiday to North Queensland. Hope they know how to swim? lol

Findme, just rename the extension of the save files to .zip and you can attach them to posts here in the Tech Support forum.  The file size limit is larger here.  [:)]

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/5/2011 5:18:06 PM)

Hmmm, can't paste here. Can't paste here and tried drag and drop. Didn't work. It just put in the location of the file on my hd here. How do you attach a file here?

vonTirpitz -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/5/2011 5:29:13 PM)

Findme, if you have replacements turned on for all of your LCU's then you will see that drop in manpower until they are replenished.

Easiest solution is to shut off all LCU replacements in China or other non-critical areas until you are ready to replenish them. In my latest PBEM I found it was sufficient to only shut off the replacements for units in Manchukuo and Korea for the first few months.

P.S. At the starting production levels you will also run out of vehicle points around 5/42 when your armor upgrades to Type 1s unless you start expanding immediately.

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/5/2011 6:30:50 PM)

I actually had replacements turned off at game start. In a previous game I was expanding across the board for the first 45 days and it wasn't mp pts I ran out of but supply. lol

In that game at the end of 1/42 I still had 100k mp pts with replacements turned on.

It still doesn't explain why in a PBEM I have only 5809 mp pts at game start and in a player vs AI I have 34,710 mp pts at game start with the same Scen 2 and all game options the same.

Also in another PBEM without the latest official patch I still have 10,000 mp pts on Dec 13,41.

michaelm75au -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/5/2011 7:09:26 PM)

In the saves, it looks like you had most of the LCUs with replacements on.
That is the only thing I could think of why the MP dropped. I can't find anything code-wise to explain it otherwise.

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/6/2011 4:29:01 AM)

So nothing to explain why I ended up with 1/7 th of what I was supposed to get at game start in MP Pts or in other words 5k instead of 35k to start. That is a hell of a handicap.

Maybe the computer thought I was so good that I needed to be penalized that much for the Americans to have a chance, hee, hee. lol

Next time I start a game I will make sure I check everything before moving on so that there are no glitches or surprises that these new updates have in store for me. :-))

What hex row was it again that the Australian's mobilize from a Japanese invasion force landing?

michaelm75au -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/6/2011 4:59:03 AM)

South of the Brisbane hex line

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/6/2011 5:04:35 AM)

Thanks, Still need an answer though on whether this was a glitch or not. ON the next PBEM game should I expect to get 5k mp pts or 35k mp pts to start as the Japanese?

If this was a bug, then I would have expected to have had many instances of it.
Without the initial save or even the combat save, I can't say for sure.

This greatly clarifies the matter. My current pbem game, has "replacements on" - a first for me in a game. Your explanation makes sense, as I have, on turn two (we did "historical first turn"), turned my settings to "replacements off", manpower should build up quickly again.

Thank You for your help,

Mac

vonTirpitz -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/6/2011 1:03:56 PM)

No problem Mac. For me, the drop in vehicle points zeroed a 6,000 point pool reserve so a modest increase in your vehicle factories from day one would do the trick (I think I brought mine up to about 500 total after the fact in order to makeup for the shortfall but now I idle many of those same factories to conserve HI).

As with the manpower issue during the first few turns, the vehicle shortage can also be easily mitigated by managing your LCU upgrades/replacements more closely (I was caught be surprise myself when it happened simply because I failed to anticipate the upgrade).

It just reinforces the fact that the Japanese player has to learn to carefully manage their resources and try to plan for long term sustainability.

This also means that you don't expand all of your factories at once nor do you expand them by large amounts (I find that expanding by no more than 20-30 days at a time will help you better manage your consumption of resources).

Also note that Scenario 2 requires 35k HI every month (pilot training) so it is very important to start planning for your late game reserves from day one. If you are experienced player managing Japanese industry in Scenario 1 then you will quickly notice that the extra "stuff" you get in Scenario 2 can be a mixed blessing due to the increased draw on HI and MP.

I would say that by the second half of 1943 you will need at least 70,000 HI for your pilots each month. Starting in January 1943 you get 815 Army and 680 Navy pilots per month. ( 815 + 680 ) * ( 12 months ) * ( 5 HI ) = 89,700 HI for each month starting in 1944( a few less since some die in training ).

von Tirpitz -

I really appreciate your insight. While a micromanager at heart, with a good grasp of the theory, I am still working to gain practical experience, which only comes thru play.

findmeifyoucan -> RE: What's going on with all my MP pts disappearing after the first turn? (2/21/2011 7:15:27 PM)

What I have also noticed in this game is that I have 25k less HI to work with as well which means I will be hard pressed to have enough HI for the end of the first month to pay for my pilots let alone keeping the rest of the Japanese industry going for Scen 2. Japan economy crashes through no fault of my own Dec 31,41. 7k HI to start the game. This sucks big time. Grrrrrrr.

On Dec 11 I typically would have 22k MP and 33K HI but instead have 4k MP and 7k HI with not doing anything different from before. In fact because of this I am forced to reduce my replacements considerably and halt all expansion due to fear of having my economy crash come Dec 31 from the hiring of my pilots.
