lexo1014 -> shipping help (2/4/2011 7:24:57 PM)

I have noticed that there are alot of cargo, tankers, etc that arent on auto convoy.
is there anyway to put them on auto so i dont have to micro manage them?
I auto convoyed the 2 places i could SanFran and columbo already.

Yes. Identify the ports that you would like for them to sail between. At the "home" transport port, select (manual/computer/CS) the ship function toggle. On the RHS of the screen, select what you want this CS TF to load (supply, fuel, resources, etc.). That's it. It will load those things and automatically move at cruise speed to it's destination, unloading the cargo so ordered.

Recent patches provide you with an ability to order this CS TF to pick up stuff and bring it back to the home port. On the RHS of the screen, toggle between different options under the 'return orders' button.

BTW, don't use auto convoy. It's borked. Use CS for your automated convoy work.

i dont have the CS or know what that is,,all i see is computer control or human control.

Say for example in Calcutta i have 20 cargo type ships doing nothing,,and dont know what to do with them

Lifer -> RE: shipping help (2/4/2011 8:54:08 PM)

At the homeport form up your TF and load the supply/fuel/resource/oil.  Set your destination port and then at the center of the screen (below the picture) click once to change from Human Control to Computer Control.  Click again to change it to CS.  For some reason when I go from Computer to CS, the speed goes from Mission to Cruise so I have to click the TF back to Mission Speed.  On the right side of the screen there is a button to select the return cargo.  Default is none.  You can click the button to cycle through what you want to bring back to the original port.

Autoconvoy does work in a limited way.  Don't try to use it to supply forward bases where you expect subs or surface raiders.  It does work if you want to supply rear areas with basic supply and the occasional spot of fuel.  Islands off Canada or the remote bases in Alaska, etc.

Ahh ok the cruise speed.
guess ill have to micro manage shipping for all the front line bases then, i just thought i could auto all those cargo boats and not have to be bothered with the human control of shipping.
Thanks guys

Auto Convoy is good enough to keep your rear bases in supply, as long as it doesnt have to think a way around enemy held bases.

Everything else I like to keep a bit more control of.

It is, normally, but the beta patch sort of broke it. In the Tech section long ago; michaelm is aware.

Those who use beta patches deserve what they get.

Usually the issue of them is to use the gamers as crash test dummies and find bugs.

I gladly trade auto-convoy for working search arcs, resurrected LCUs, and a whole bunch of other goodies.
