Day Time Surface Combat, near Oosthaven at 49,96, Range 23,000 Yards (1/18/1941) Japanese Ships CV Hiryu, Shell hits 2 CV Soryu, Shell hits 8, heavy fires CV Zuikaku, Shell hits 1 DD Isokaze, Shell hits 2 DD Natsugumo, Shell hits 2, on fire DD Inazuma, Shell hits 2 DD Shiokaze, Shell hits 2, on fire DD Kuretake, Shell hits 1 DD Karukaya Allied Ships CL Danae, Shell hits 2 CL Durban, Shell hits 1 CL Mauritius, Shell hits 1 DD Vampire, Shell hits 3, heavy fires, heavy damage DD Vendetta The CV-TF consists of 3 CV and only 6 DD or 1 CV/2DD. This composition is way too weak and should never happen - at least so long as the Japanese have enough ships. According to the manual of the editor (page 57) the AI has to build a 3 CV group with 1 BB, 4 CA and 8 DD. These ships were all are available in the example. As the KB has high strategic importance the AI should forced to build correct TF even when it means that one scripts has to be canceled. That is in my opinion long term much better than sending out weak TF which could be easily attacked. There should be also included a routine which checks if enough escort ships are available and when then some ships should be simply called back. I have the feeling that the allocation of ships is very inefficient. Maybe the number of raids which are executed at the same time should be limited.
