Warhorse64 -> Admin Mode (2/6/2011 1:21:53 AM)

I just spent the last two days finding out the hard way that the latest version of HC (and apparently ONLY the latest version!) requires me to be running in admin mode to run the program. It seems to run fine now that I know this, but why is it set up this way?!?

I wonder why you spent two days working on this without coming to see us at HarpGamer but aside from that I think you are mistaken. The attached screenshot is running the game as a standard user without any compatibility mode settings (obviously the game has been running for some time).

Tony, I didn't go see you on HarpGamer because I'm a stubborn cuss, and wanted to see if I could figure it out for myself first, and I figured it would take about that long between the time I posted the problem, and then checked in again to see the reply, anyway. I was about to go that route, but I found a post on this forum which solved the problem. The problem was that, on two separate installs of the game software, clicking on the desktop icon or the start menu icon brings up the game options dialog, and choosing the play game option there brings up the 'which version' dialog just fine, but when I click on the box for the 2009.50 version, absolutely nothing happens. When I open Windows Explorer, and double-click the winharp32.exe icon, I get an error message about trouble verifying the serial number, and error code 1x740 is quoted, and then the game shuts back down. I discovered that setting the game to run with administrator privileges solves the problem, so that's what I did. It seems to work fine now, though I haven't by any means given it much of a workout yet. This is on 64-bit Win 7 Pro.
