Are the broken events when importing COW scenarios still an issue?

(Or was it never an issue?)

Anyone?...

I seem to remember some mention of this but don't recall that any specific details were discussed. I might guess that some things were handled differently between COW and newer versions (i.e., recon levels). I might also guess that nothing has been reverted back to COW. Its a good idea to go thru events of older scenarios that have been converted to see if anything looks awry. This can prove difficult at times, but generally most of the older scenarios use fewer events. The biggest problem I've had is with withdrawal events that aren't marked as to which unit/formation they pertain. That has nothing to do with conversion though.

So, potentially still an issue. And I'm not talking only recon levels, I'm talking of things like events suddenly pointing to the wrong event.

That being the case, shouldn't there be a note for buyers that whilst compatible with previous versions you need to go through potentially hundreds of events, making sure they all work (no easy task mind you) to be certain you are not starting to play a broken +100 turn scenario?

What ia the problem with recon levels?

Any scenario that comes with a purhased version should be ok for use. I think its safe to assume that, as with any other software, if you acquire a scenario from another source, there are no guarantees. I can't remember if the COW's that come with TOAW III have been given a clean bill or not. I haven't come across any that have events pointing to the wrong event, but I certainly haven't looked at them all.

True, but the same could also be said about any scenario. The designer is the only one that had the original scenario in his head, and he might be the only one that could actually tell if that scenario works as intended with later versions. There was also some supply issue, which is why 'high supply' was implemented in later versions. But I've never seen a scenario briefing that stated 'use of high supply recommended'.

I think it was a difference in how they were calculated between older and newer versions. Initially you set the recon level by event by changing the number. Newer versions calculated the event changes cumulatively. So in older versions you lowered it by changing it from 20 to 15, but in newer versions you lowered it from 20 to 15 by changing it by -5. Or it may not have been a calculation issue, rather an issue with how the calculation was perceived. Not sure which.
