RaffleSnaffle -> Wow even more questions? (2/16/2011 3:31:04 AM)

So yes I have more questions [:'(]

Thanks ahead for taking the time to read and answer btw!!

1). I have been finally getting into ship design and the one thing I can't seem to find is what components stack and witch ones do not? Like I know shields, armor, thrusters, and weapons stack. But on some of them there is no way to see if they stack... Just wondering if there was anywhere I could get some sort of list to find what stacks and what does not. I am sorry if this is an overly stupid thing to ask, but the in-game pedia does not show if it is a stackable component.

2). All of my shield bars on my ships no longer show. They show in the ship selection window, but not on the top of the ship in space... did I hit some sort of hot key on accident? lol

3). Where are the list of hotkeys?

4). Is the only way to replace a current design for a ship to "Add New" then make the old one obsolete?

5). Why am I so daft? (optional)

Thanks again guys for putting up with me. You all have been very very helpful so far! [:)]

Shark7 -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/16/2011 3:46:01 AM)

1. Targeting, counter-measures, damage control, commerce and command centers, robotic repairs and sensors don't stack.

2. You just aren't zoomed in close enough, you have to zoom in really close for them to show.

3. Galactopedia...though having a list you could print out would be a help.

4. IF there are components that can be upgraded, you can upgrade the design, make any changes and save. This auto-obsoletes the old design.

5. Not daft, you just hit the learning cliff like we all did. [;)]

Ahh ok thank you Shark!! Helps a lot :)

wow even more answers [:)]

1. for most components the pedia will clarify if they stack or not. There are some that are not so easy to nail and testing by some of us got the info; for example armor does stack with regard to damage taken but the reactive bonus for it does not stack. So if you have a 2 reactive bonus armor you can stack as many of them as you like and you'd still get only 2 reactive bonus. The design detail screen is actually pretty usefull for this, it has lots of detailed info that updates as you change your components.

3. you can print anything you like from it, the pedia is actually a series of mht files in the game folder under the Help folder. For example, in my case, here's where I found and printed this info -> D:\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\Help\UI_KeyboardCommands.mht

5. why even ask? join the club and un-daft yourself alongside the rest of us [:)]

4. You can add a new one to start from scrap or upgrade an existing one to automatically upgrade all the newer components and manually tinker with it after or you can use the create as new option to copy an existing design into a new one to tinker with it manually after

Bingeling -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/16/2011 7:49:25 AM)

I have one combat screenshot from one of my AARs with no health bars and no triangles around my warship. Why? I have no clue, some bug. After the combat ended, I did exit to main menu and reload, and everything was fine again.

And of course, you must be close enough to see the health bar. But the unit symbols around (triangle, square...) should be visible at any level.

This one:

I had to have the space port selected to see how the progress was.

So either there is indeed some fancy shortcut to turn stuff into photo mode - or it is possible that Raffle had a little bug pop up.

yeah it almost seems the longer I play one map I start to lose some visual aids? Like When I was playing mortalen and had like 8 fleets I lost all of my fleet names. Do not know when it happened but I zoomed out and there were no names above my fleets. hmmm

RaffleSnaffle -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/16/2011 9:06:49 AM)

oh oh one more question! when you recruit troops at a colony does it take troops from the populous of the planet you are recruiting from?

Data -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/16/2011 9:33:59 AM)

never noticed it or read about it. I'm also in situations where I order tens of troops at the same colony so I think it would be noticeable on the pop cap.
Given the fact that colony ships do seem to take pop I think troops should do it as well.

RaffleSnaffle -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/17/2011 4:42:53 AM)

ah ok. lol I seem to be getting mroe questions popping into my head the more I think about it and the more I play the game.

But do "hyper deny" components stack? Also, does setting the new ship role to "escort" for example, limit it to a certain size?

RaffleSnaffle -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/17/2011 4:44:49 AM)

Also when I try and put more than one hyper core on ym ship a message pops up in the warning box telling me only one hyper core is needed...

and when a try and put more than one it shows no diff in the "hyper" speed of the ship? I am confused as I thot they stacked to make the ship enter jump faster and generally go faster in warp?

Sabin Stargem -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/17/2011 5:25:35 AM)

Use different types of Hyperwarp Reactors. I use VelocityDrive and Kaldon, which gives 36,000 speed and a 3-second jump initiation time.

Data -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/17/2011 7:14:49 AM)

hyperdeny doesn't stack
escort class does not limit the size (no class does that in this game, something some of us wish for though) so you can have an escort larger than a battleship....or a battleship smaller than a house [:D]

Data -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/17/2011 7:17:23 AM)

hyperdrive also doesn't stak , that's why you see only one speed...it's the speed of the fastest drive you put
but as Sabin points out, you can have different drives to get the best in different aspects (speed, jump initiation speed, fuel efficiency) and you do see that change on the design detail screen

Sabin Stargem -> RE: Wow even more questions? (2/17/2011 9:11:29 PM)

Concerning fuel efficiency and different drives, I think it is best to just use only a drive focused on Speed and another for Jump, because you need multiple fuel-efficient drives to get any significant decrease in consumption. I feel that isn't cost effective and adds too much weight to be of use. If you need a fuel-saving drive, I suggest using only that and no other.
