Sun Tempest -> Philippines vs. Java (2/21/2011 9:01:25 PM)

What are the risks of concentrating on Java, by using a part (or all) forces earmarked for Philippines (Luzon)? After eliminating the naval&air force Philippines and blockading the area, I see no reason to hurry the destruction of the US land forces in Luzon, at least not before securing SRA, Burma and Rabaul.

Many IJ players will repurpose their initial Luzon assault forces to Java or other second tier goals once the Allies have been 'bottled up' in Bataan and stripped of their airforce, navy and much of their supplies. Until the Allies are eliminated from Luzon altogether or bottled up in Bataan, it's probably too early to relocate / repurpose most of the dedicated IJA assault forces, IMO.

It does seem making a fence around the PI and moving south for a while is the right choice if you have other goals and want to get there before the quick unloading bonus ends. It's not like the Allies can do anything there.

Once the SRA, and maybe even N Aussieland are out of the way, then it would seem to be even easier to go back and hit the PI, after the supply is gone. Making sure of course to keep bombing so the supply goes and the forts don't get enormous.
