gts2096 -> Japanese Guns (2/23/2011 10:00:36 PM)

are in cm....how does that convert to inches....first time playing as japan

HMSWarspite -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/23/2011 10:13:20 PM)

2.54cm =1"

Or some common guns: (sorry, cant be bothered to look up specific Jn guns so just common multiples).
75mm=3"
105=4"
155=6"
205=8"
300=12"
380=15"
460=stonking huge (Yamato's 18")

Fallschirmjager -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/23/2011 10:14:05 PM)

I have an iPhone app that does conversions. Extremely useful when I am playing AE.

Sredni -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/23/2011 10:22:09 PM)

I've grown up using both and still can't convert with any degree of accuracy without outside aid heh. I use a ruler with metric on one side and imperial on the other.

Here's a good site I use for conversions as well.

http://www.worldwidemetric.com/measurements.html

gts2096 -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/23/2011 10:33:10 PM)

So...a 32cm gun is...32/2.54 which equals 12.6 inches?

Sorry gang im bad in math....is this right

zace -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/23/2011 11:06:08 PM)

assuming the division is done right yes. Your technique of (cm)/2.54=(in) or (in)*2.54=(cm) is correct.

Also it is 25.4 for mm instead of cm

morganbj -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/24/2011 2:26:24 PM)

Wouldn't have this problem if the uncivilized world just abandonded the metric system. ([:D])

Cavalry Corp -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/24/2011 3:21:54 PM)

There should be one or the other not both...

Ikazuchi0585 -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/24/2011 3:24:59 PM)

multiply cm x .3937 to get inches

also 40cm for Nagato's 16in guns (technically 40.6cm)

Join us. Metric is ever so nice. 10mm to the cm. 100cm to the meter. 1000m to the kilometer. It's so logical! [:D]

And don't even get me started on Celsius vs Fahrenheit. [:@] Trying to figure out temperature when my folks are talking in their arcane oldtimey measurements is like listening to another language.

Bah! Logical is so bland and boring![:)]

Like Homer Simpson's father Abe Simpson once said in a fit of pique, "My car gets three rods to the Hogshead! And that's the way I like's it!" [:D]

anarchyintheuk -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/24/2011 6:59:40 PM)

If the measuring powers that be had just decided to make a meter a yard's length I might have made the effort to incorporate the rest of metric fu into my life but they didn't so I don't.

Yes indeed ! [:)]

JeffroK -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/25/2011 6:05:49 AM)

If the metric system is so bloody hard, oh yes it only yanquis complaining, why do you use a dollar based currency.

I come from the Pounds/Shillings/Pence - Tons/Pounds Ounces era of conversions.

Cyber Me -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/25/2011 10:28:51 AM)

Only three countries don't use the metric system: USA, Liberia, and Burma.
The metric system is so easy- all you have to do is multiply or divide by groups of ten- ie move decimal point right or left.

It has nothing to do w/ ease of use. It's growing up w/ a measurement that you instinctively know. I know exactly what an inch, a mile, a pound looks like/feels like . . . . a centimeter? a kilometer? a kilo? Not familiar. As above, it would have been easier if the metricists had started w/ a kilo equaling a pound or two or a meter equaling a yard.

As long as the differences only cost the occasional satellite or two I'm good with the current system.

Bearcat2 -> RE: Japanese Guns (2/26/2011 12:14:37 AM)

The Euro's are always screwing things up; thankfully, we invaded on 6/6/44; one of the 12 times a year the euros get the date right.[;)]
