Katana -> Katana vs Absntmndedprof (9/14/2002 5:18:12 PM)

US army (Katana) vs Germany(Absinth minded prof)
June 44, medium map, 4000 points meeting engagement.
10% arty, two airstrikes, no bought mines.

Have at you!

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/17/2002 5:10:22 AM)

Cray havoc and let loose the dogs of war! (Cliche of the day) :D

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/18/2002 12:19:47 PM)

Moving out.

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/18/2002 7:53:31 PM)

Greyhounds in the woods! Run for your lives! :D

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/18/2002 10:02:30 PM)

You're not running!
Even an airstrike doesn't seem to help, but it does decrew a Stug42.
Most of the Germans are still lurking well behind the lines. As far as I can tell here's just one brave mech squad advancing in the middle.
No Tigers spotted, so far. Wonder where they are hiding...

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/19/2002 12:29:42 AM)

That was my favorite Stug too! Darn! Well, we managed to get one of your greyhounds. (Not exactly an even trade, but I'll take it for now.):rolleyes:

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/19/2002 2:10:25 PM)

Stug #2 dies by 3inch AT. There's a lot more stuff showing up in the middle now :eek:
Airstrike #2 takes out a PzIV east of there.
Artillery has little effect. We need bigger guns :mad:

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/20/2002 12:01:00 AM)

I keep getting shot at, but cannot see who is shooting to shoot back! (Btw, I noticed with some interest that in 'preferences' the US Army has a 110% search, 120% rally, and 110% infantry setting, while my Germans are all 100%.):rolleyes:

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/20/2002 1:43:59 AM)

Sorry about the settings, I didn't touch them. :confused:
Looks like a holdover from another PBEM game. One somebody else started.

Want to start over?

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/20/2002 2:09:26 AM)

N/p. You may as well go ahead and reset them, then.

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/20/2002 12:23:55 PM)

Well, yes. That would be the point of restarting. Can't reset them otherwise :rolleyes:

Ok, that didn't come out quite right. Sorry if that sounded sarcastic, it's been a long night...

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/20/2002 4:07:06 PM)

Katana posted:

I'm still somewhat new to PBEM play, so I didn't realize that the game preferences couldn't be changed once a game had started.

If we need to start over again, let me know if you want to set up the new situation? :cool:

Btw, your reply didn't seem sarcastic to me. :)

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/21/2002 4:48:34 AM)

Here you go, same rules, different map, equal settings.

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/21/2002 5:14:16 AM)

I'm ready! (I think. :D)

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/22/2002 12:41:51 AM)

Me too.;)

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/22/2002 1:30:57 AM)

My recon force has stuck its toe in the water, so to speak and found some of your airborne units in a graveyard. Since they're there already, they can bury the recon unit my forces hit. :D

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/22/2002 2:48:26 AM)

They'll take care of those dead hell's angels while they're at it. Them bikers smell bad enough as it is :D
Recon has done their job. Managed to locate about 3000 points worth of Germans, ie. most of your battle force. :p
Good turn for the USA, up north two Jagdpathers and two PzIV are destroyed, without taking damage in return.
Further south, two halftracks are wrecked by 3inch guns and a little later a third is hit by a 155mm shell.
(Yes, I checked the preferences ;) )

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/22/2002 6:37:45 AM)

My Pz IVgs aren't much of a match for your 3 inch AA guns. :-(

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/22/2002 7:17:43 AM)

Deja vu.
Looks like you forgot to update the zip. :)

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/22/2002 8:03:23 AM)

Rats! How did I forget? I'm not that absent minded! (At least I think I'm not!) :eek:

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/22/2002 8:57:23 PM)

Yes, you are :D
This is the same file as the one before.

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/22/2002 9:02:16 PM)

Very strange! When I try to load the email9 files that I zipped last night and posted here, I get asked for the U.S. Army password. (I'm still fairly new to PBEM play, having only done three battles to the end, and a couple of turns in a couple more a while ago. I hope that I didn't manage to mess things up again.) :confused: :eek:

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/22/2002 10:17:06 PM)

That's supposed to happen, as it's the US turn. The problem is, it's still turn 2. The strange thing is, the zipped files have a later timestamp than the original turn2 :confused:

Guess the easiest way out is to replay the turn again. Hope I get as lucky as the first time round. Back in a couple of minutes.

Katana -> (9/22/2002 10:44:37 PM)

Slightly less impressive results this time.

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/22/2002 11:16:25 PM)

Your 3 inch guns continue to be a major thorn in my side. On a lighter note, them jeeps sure do go fast when they run away! :D

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/23/2002 2:47:52 AM)

Uh-huh. One seems to have left the battlefield entirely. Not a trace of it left :confused:
Another PzIV is destroyed and one SdKfz 222 is damaged. The other one wisely retreated.
3inchers claim two more HTs, the graveyard gang takes out another, along with a MC squad.
Arty is prepping the central area for a counterattack, while in the south more PzIVgs are spotted. A welcoming committee is despatched to deal with them.

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/23/2002 3:39:15 AM)

Scratch one M4 and one Greyhound! Your 3 inch guns dusted off another HT. My KG will try and have a warm reception ready for your forces in the center. :D

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/23/2002 5:11:46 AM)

Destroyed that 222 in the north. Also immobilize a PzIVg and destroy another. One of your Jagdpanthers is decrewed as well.
The Germans in the middle don't do much after being hit by 8inch howitzers.
Recon is trying to sneak up on a PzIV in the south and fails miserably. Better think of something else.

AbsntMndedProf -> (9/24/2002 12:16:02 AM)

In the North, my remaining Jagdpanther withdrew to safer ground. In the middle, yet antoher Pz IV fell to your 3 inch AT guns. In the South, Sgt. Ostendorff's Pz IV engaged two M4s in a tank duel, managing to score one kill before withdrawing.

(Memo to self, buy 88 AT guns next battle.) :D

Eric Maietta

Katana -> (9/24/2002 7:06:44 AM)

You can inform sgt Ostendorff's family that he, et, etc.
Same goes for his collegue whatshisname.
Cost me another Sherman (M4a3(76) no less) to do it, but the two PzIV ithe south are dead and so are the crews.
On the hill nearby a third is destroyed with some 3inch rounds.

US troopers are moving up the central hill to clear out the remaining German infantry, when a recon patrol bumps into a Stug42. Bazooka teams are on the hunt...

Up north the last Jagdpanther is destroyed as are the crews of both the other JPz and the PzIV. And the PzIV on the hill further back :cool:

These M4 thingies aren't asbad as they're made out to be :D
