When you make something a basic race structure such as insectoid or ursidian or human or whatever...
Does this have any effect on the calculations of combat what-so-ever, or is it simply to help names and so on?

I think certain races have better troops than others. I'm pretty sure the naxxilian's troops are better than lets say Human troops. But I think thats the only difference among troops wise. You have to factor in certain researches for the space combat as I forget which race but it has better sheilds than others.

As far as I can tell, race family (Humanoid, insectoid, rodent etc) only affects racial bias. Since race bias settings can now be modified, this renders the race family type less important.

I have found however, that when encountering an independant colony, the racial bias settings don't seem to apply. The original race family bias (+10, 0, and -10) is the default for this. If I'm correct, and I think I am, this needs to be changed.

Actually the specific race friendliness is the biggest factor determining whether a race will allow you to colonize or not.

For example, I have a humanoid race independent in my games and I play human. However, the race is very unfriendly (Friendliness = 75). I have never been able to peacefully colonize this race, despite the natural +10 bias of 2 humanoids.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks for clearing that up Shark.[;)]

maybe the friendliness is ok by itself and it's offset by other factors....after all, you do have a way (actually many ways in your case) of disturbing all of them [:)]

Granted racial bias will still prevail.

I have colonies of certain races that are 'Unhappy about being in a Human Empire' etc.

So all the stats work together....race family bias, friendliness, agression, caution probably all play a role in it. Also, colony development...a more developed independent can resist colonization, despite being 'very friendly' (135) and of the same racial family (humanoid). I've had this happen multiple times, and the farther along the game is, the more likely it seems that it will occur.

In other words, friendliness is probably heavily weighted, but it all still works together.

Thank you! [8D]
So when I make the Sith mean and onry, the fact that they are human makes it more likely they will like us humans... [X(]

It's only when colonising independants, tj. If you're playing as Empire and come across an indie rebel planet that only has a small negative racial bias, then there is a possiblity they will like you since their friendliness and family bias are positive.
