Mark VII -> RE: I'm back ! (3/5/2011 5:51:12 PM)

Rat-brain here again,

I really do live in the hills, on a ridge actually. Dave, remember that giant hill we climbed to get to my house. And my backyard is nothing but woods.

So HILL-billy from the BACKWOODS sorta works.[:D][:D][:D]

Well I am currently getting my arse kicked by a rat-brained hillbilly from the backwoods of Tennessee. Basically I stuffed up and tried a '42 invasion of the DEI......it didn't go very well.[:(]

You do have to watch out for those Tennesseans. Especially the ones from back up in the hills.

Rat-brain here.
Every day the rat digs his burrow a little deeper and makes plans for trouble. He digs and digs and digs(like to level 5). They will eat almost anything including anything that lands next to his hole.

A pigeon-brain on the other hand has no plan, he just goes. The pigeon-brain travels to distant lands with no clue of whats waiting for him.

Scratch 5 CV's, 3 BB's, and lots of CA's, CL's, CLAA's, DD's, transports and AO's. KB chased them all the way back to Trinco. A few escaped, not to many.

Raverdave -> RE: I'm back ! (3/5/2011 11:04:16 PM)

I loved the Tennessee country side, it was all such a rich shade of green which you don't normally get over here.  If everything works out I hope to be back there in 2012.   In the mean time I have a game to win, and I think that PM is about to become mine.[8D]

Raverdave -> RE: I'm back ! (3/6/2011 2:12:06 AM)

Well the plan is to visit in 2012.  I have friends in Des moine, Lakeview Arkansas, and of course Mark VII in Tennessee, so there is at least three states that I will be passing through.

Mark VII -> RE: I'm back ! (3/6/2011 3:49:51 AM)

Mark VII -> RE: I'm back ! (3/6/2011 9:46:34 PM)

As many know, I am a photojournalist for a TV station in Nashville. Mike is a Public Safety GIS Analyst in Rutherford County. Rutherford Co. is one of the fastest growing areas in TN. Murfreesboro is the county seat there and a large town/small city and the Nashville TV stations go there alot trying to get the people to watch the news. He works in the old historic court house right on the square.

The "new"court house is right across the street along with other businesses on the square. Can't tell you how many times I have been shooting a story on the square, economic impact of some new industry, covering some dirtbag appearing in court, interviewing the county mayor or covering protests in the old historic courthouse or outside on the square. We often set up our live truck there to do live shots.

Sooooo, there have been may times when I have been working within 100 feet of him over the years and didn't know there was a WitP'er looking out the window at our live truck wondering "what the hell are those guys doing?"

Yes indeed ![:D]

Is that a modified M-14 ?

Mark VII -> RE: I'm back ! (3/6/2011 11:05:43 PM)

No, its a pre-ban Colt AR-15A2. However, it has a custom upper with a match barrel, floating handguard, a Cooley muzzle compensator and a very nice trigger job. The optic is a EO Tech holographic sight. I have since gone to a Valdada IOR 1.1-4x26 Tactical 30mm scope.

Raverdave -> RE: I'm back ! (3/7/2011 2:08:31 AM)

As y'all can see my rat-brained hillbilly opponent has a mildly passing interest in longarms.

Back in MY day real men used open iron sights and shot 7.62mm.  [;)]

Reg -> RE: I'm back ! (3/7/2011 11:13:29 AM)

I used to get better scores on the annual qualification with open sights than I ever did with them new fangled plastic scoped thingies..... (or was that just old age kicking in???? [&:])

Raverdave -> RE: I'm back ! (3/7/2011 12:12:30 PM)

Yes Reg I know what you mean.  Open sights used to work really well for me when I was a young lad......I'd hate to have to try and hit a target with an open site L1A1 SLR at 300 metres now[X(]

morganbj -> RE: I'm back ! (3/7/2011 2:57:28 PM)

With a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun, you don't need no stinkin' sights. Point the barrel in the general direction and watch 'em run like hell. [sm=scared0018.gif]

Mark VII -> RE: I'm back ! (3/7/2011 3:24:33 PM)

I have a Remington 1100 with a sweet trigger job. You don't need no stinkin sights if they are within 20 feet and you are shooting some bird shot. I have standard rifle open sights attached. I have used 1 oz slugs out to 100 yards with success in my compititions.

Think of a one ounce hunk of lead inbound at around 1150 fps. 1350 fps at 50 yards. Ouch.

Mark VII -> RE: I'm back ! (3/7/2011 3:33:13 PM)

It was mostly the result of a opportunity. Back in the mid 90's, when basic stock AR's were going for $1000-1500, got this one from a mate at work for only $500. Can't beat that. So since that was the platform I started with(my first and only rifle), thats what I built on. Plus ammo is less expensive.

edit: the scope, I'm almost 55 now, the eyes aren't what they used to be.

I once hit a target with the SMLE III at 1000 yards.

You know, the big 20 ft x 20 ft board they pin that little bullseye thingy on.
