ROFLMAO!![:D]

bevans -> RE: Managing HR in Wehrmacht (3/7/2011 10:58:54 PM)

At least you can now put Manstein in AGS where he belongs.

And way better than my Turn 3 in the GC, mud (random weather obviously) followed by Manstein's death. Lived with the mud but fortunately a 'recheck' found it was Bruce Manstein who had died and Erich was alive and well with his Pz Corps in AGN.

Q-Ball -> RE: Managing HR in Wehrmacht (3/7/2011 11:31:10 PM)

That is poor HR Management. No written warning, no performance review, no 360 feedback, no employee surveys, nothing.....

What? Bruce Springstein is dead? Holy cow, to the internet batman, must report this.[:D]

I guess Guderian wasn't that badly off, the compy put him right back to work. You could make a joke about kicking the incompetent upstairs though. But it's not really fitting...

In a bit more seriousness, I read the dismissals cum higher reassignments (like Guderian's here) as promotions writ another way. IOW, von Manstein got fired and Guderian got promoted to his postion. Nicht wahr?

Senno -> RE: Managing HR in Wehrmacht (3/8/2011 3:38:04 AM)

Hmm, I suppose you could look at it that way. But does Guderian take a potential hit to his skills for the promotion? I'm unsure about that. Might not be as helpful as we think.

If he doesn't lose any skill points in the transition, it's good for Guderian.

But where is a general with Guderians skills best used? And is he better than Manstein if it's AGC?

There's a debate about this. And as many opinions as members, I bet. I usually have Guderian at 2nd Panzer, and Manny get put in First Panzer eventually, AP's allowing.

jomni -> RE: Managing HR in Wehrmacht (3/9/2011 2:13:28 AM)

The Germans are toast no matter where these good generals go. [:D]

Aussiematto -> RE: Managing HR in Wehrmacht (3/9/2011 6:50:21 AM)

That sounds like a challenge to me... care to show me how you toast the Germans? :)

The game should handle it the "historical way"
Guderian is best as a army comander with tanks
Manstein is the best comander at all

i do not know anybody who thinks that von Manstein was not the best military leader in ww2, he could do exactly the things his troops could handle.
Rommel for example was a good corps general, but no great Heeresgruppen-leader, he was to unflexible.

Guderian had a great knowledge about the things his troops could do, but he took more risks as manstein.
Model is - with developing tasks a great defence general, but also limited to his loyality to false orders. And he was not good at the offense...

So the best organisation would be
HQ: von Manstein
Army group: Guderian
Tank-Army: Rommel
Army in the defence (or to hold incredible long flanks): Model

The only guy who was very good in any position (corps, army,Armee-Gruppe) was von Manstein.
Limited material and huge sucsess (for the circumstances...) his best work was the "Hube-Kessel" in spring 44... this lead to his last conflict with hitler, but he had such a great sucsess in saving this army

Oh, he also developted after ww2 (even as a warcriminal) the structure of the new german army and the reorganisation (with brigades instead of large and inflexible tank-divisions) of combat units.

So i canīt say i know one general in ww2 that could do all his positions so good. has anyone someone who is his "size"?

Model is roughly comparable in game. Which is what I'm speaking of. He did fill rougly the same range of positions in "real life", as Manny. Not OKH, but he ultimately commanded 2 of the AG's, coming as close to overall command of the East as anyone did. How well he did, is subject to debate, I suppose. And I'm not really interested in debating their "real life" performances in this thread, sorry.

The Germans have a wealth of great leadership, in game. I don't even like to use the 6 6 Init/Admin on spearhead Infantry and tanks.... At least 7 7 Init/Admin if I can help it. With a 7 in the Infantry or Armored column, at least. 4th Panzers 4 morale score, can be a concern. But doesn't seem vital to me, and there's better uses for AP's for a good long while.

Rommel isn't available, his available date is late, in 1945. Never seen him available for promotion. That's without checking the exact period, at least.[;)]

Halder, with his high Admin score does well enough for me at OKH.

I generally leave Halder at OKH. His admin score is fine, and AP's are needed elsewhere.

Once the game starts, where the leaders go is up to the player. And that's how I think it should be.

With the exception of Rommel, your suggested command tree would work very well in game, I suppose. I'd probably put Rommel in somewhere if I could.

PS:I will try to find the thread, where someone did the math and evaluated who belongs where.

Edit: Well, sure wish the search function worked. If anyone can come up with the leadership thread, that would be wonderful.
