Deban -> Pilot Allocation (9/17/2002 7:30:58 AM)

Has anyone figured out why transfering squads makes you lose the pilots? And if so is thier a work-around?
Im playing a Sen 19 PBEM and had 3 Zero Squads at Rabaul.
After some intence combat 2 of the squads had morale of less than 30 so I decided to tranfer them to Truck for a little R&R.
Now both of those 25+ plane squads only have 6 pilots each and the remaining Rabual based squad has 98. Are those pilots so down in the dumps that they just dont wanna leave thier tents?

This has been the only major problem with the game since it was first released. However, in spite of its DEVASTATING effect on game play, it hasn't been completely addressed in the patches. Matrix fixed some of the early situations that were causing difficulties, but for the most part, the problem remains. Unfortunately, based on the slight attention it has received in the patches, it looks like this bug (or these bugs) will not be addressed until WITP comes out, if at all. :(

If anyone from Matrix could shed some light on the likelihood that this problem will be fixed, I'm sure there are many armchair admirals out there with grounded squadrons who would be extremely grateful. :)

Some fixes are in the list for the next patch. Specifically, if you have 2 squadrons with the same plane in the same base and move one, the pilots and planes that didn't make the move won't get shuffled into the squadron that wasn't moving.

From what I can tell, this is the major cause of the under/over manned squadrons.

Now, if the squadrons would re-man on all the missions types, that would be great too.

Good to hear! I must have missed this as I scanned the 1.5 patch items.

This does seem to be a common cause of the odd pilot/plane assignments. However, withdrawing/disbanding can cause similar problems as can carrier air groups which transfer to bases when their carrier is damaged and the carrier subsequently sinks. In addition, some types of air groups (patrols and float planes in particular) never seem to have enough pilots. Another problem occurs when a squadron transfers and leaves its damaged planes behind. If there is even a small number of upgrade aircraft available, the formerly damaged planes get upgraded and the parent unit does not. For the rest of the game then, you are stuck with this straggling, upgraded unit (that for some reason seems to get the worst pilots possible).

Are these items in the fix list as well?
