I'm sure there is some, but the 500 per day allotment at Chungking when the road is open is the real deal. In fact, I'm working just to get all the supplies out of Rangoon before they get snarfed by the Empire. I'm not sure if this part is the same as stock, or the same as standard DBB, or if it's unique to Treespider's mod, but there are daily supply limits on all the bases (that I looked at) in lower and middle Burma.

Preparations 1942-02-09 Cape Gloucester and Merauke fell today. The Trenton Express claws through the ocean under heaven-sent overcast. Most likely a mid-ocean refueling will take place in two days. Detroit does well, but is even closer to enemy waters. A B-17 strike against Makassar was only slightly effective. Otherwise, there were few air losses today on either side. Most air activity consisted of Imperial strikes against the same targets: Clark, Palembang, Batavia, Port Blair, and ground units neat Moulmein and throughout China. Meanwhile, the Allied pilot training machine is working. 3 of the 5 provisional P-40E squadrons are on Java, with pilot air skill averaging in the low 50s. The remaining 2 squadrons have achieved that level and are railing to Alice Springs for deployment through Broome. None of the 3 squadrons on Java have yet seen combat, carefully set to 0% CAP to avoid sweeps by the better Zeros with their more skilled pilots. One of those squadrons has swapped out all of its pilots and over the next 6 or so days will receive a full set of the most air skilled pilots the US Army has. Minimum air skill will be 68, with most at 70. As more become available the other squadrons will each receive a cadre of the same, as full replacements will be unavailable. The idea is to use these squadrons en mass to ambush enemy sweeps and to force through effective anti-shipping attacks when the Empire sends its hordes.

One More Day 1942-02-10 Bandjermasin and Wau fell today. Imperial forces have been seen moving to cross the river at Moulmein. This must be in concert with the army from Chiang Mai being nearly across, so Allied forces have begun moving back to Pegu. Pegu, which is clear terrain, will not be a line of resistance, rather it will be a exit point for the forests of lower Central Burma. The B-17s from the Philippines on Java are moving to India to reduce the air support strain on the Island. Imperial forces have started bombing Bandoeng without escort, while fighters are still sweeping elsewhere. Although 5 more days are required for all pilots to arrive in the veteran USA fighter squadron, the other two have taken up CAP duty at Bandoeng and Kalidjati in hopes of ambushing unescorted bombers. Barring disaster or ambush, The Trenton Express will make a mid-ocean refueling rendezvous tomorrow.

Fuel!!! 1942-02-11 Siaoe fell today. Koepang was invaded. Two USN subs with Mark 14 torpedoes managed to make them work, two IJN xAKs in serious trouble or gone. Denpasar was bombed. If EHQ follows pattern that means it will be invaded reasonably soon. A British led battle fleet is moving to position to intervene. The 146th and 74th Inf Rgts are unloading at Koepang and so far evidence a 2 to 1 advantage in AV. Fortifications are 2+71%, but the base damage will prevent them ever being increased or rebuilt. Jungle terrain (x2), let's see what kind of damage we can do to the invaders. An Australian led Allied battle fleet is two days out. If the convoy is still there, they will get a quick strike. The Trenton Express has refueled and is headed directly for Pearl Harbor. Detroit is still making for Midway where it will find fuel sufficient to make Pearl. The Aleutians situation is shown on the graphic below. A construction regiment is on the way to Dutch Harbor to quicken defenses. A surface group led by three battleships is on the way north just in case an invasion at Umnak is ripe for intervention. The carriers will refuel from the tanker that accompanied them to rendezvous with The Trenton Express and then proceed north. If Imperial shipping is present and carriers are not, they might be ordered to strike. EHQ certainly will appreciate the Intel on USN carrier location, so a strike might not be ordered. Given A = Betties B = Escort Then A - B = C Where C = No More Betties 1942-02-12 Torokina fell today. Koepang barely withstood an Imperial shock attack. The attack made 2 to 1 odds despite the attackers being disrupted and so was a very near thing with only the forts deciding the issue. Fortifications were all destroyed. An Imperial raid by 22 Betties on Bandoeng destroyed a B-17 on the ground and achieved 3 airbase and 31 runway hits. 11 Betties were claimed by P-40 pilots, but Intel thinks as many as 21 were shot down on the day. Raids on Soerabaja and Madioen went in unopposed and seriously damaged the airfields. The Allied battle fleet moving on Koepang unwittingly included two ships that were slower than the rest, so they have been split out. Where are the enemy carriers? 1942-02-13 Hansa Bay fell today. Ch'i-hsien was liberated. Koepang was hit with another Imperial shock attack. SS Stingray launches 4 torpedoes at CV Kaga (GR76,94) 1942-02-14 Namatanai fell today. Kaga was sighted and attacked, but proceeded to points unknown unharmed. Is Kaga with KB? Has KB come to hunt Allied combat ships? Has KB come to suppress Allied fighters on Java? Both have been troublesome. Today's events might influence EHQ's plans for KB, whatever they were last turn! S-36 caught what must have been a laden TK Matsumoto Maru and set her afire with heavy damage with one torpedo. While Hurricanes battled roughly evenly with sweeping and escorting Imperial fighters over Toungoo, they also penetrated to the raiding Sonias and shot down 10 of 19. The Empire has landed an unknown number of troops at GR55,54 which is 40nm SE Rangoon and SW Pegu. The Allied position was already undermined and an orderly withdrawal underway, but if it wasn't this maneuver would have presented significant peril. Stealthy KB 1942-02-15 Melak and Tsiaotso fell today. Koepang withstood yet another shock attack. This time the Empire's troops had rested and showed no signs of disruption or fatigue, and they made progress in terms of greater and more serious casualties inflicted on the defenders. Dutch sub O24 slammed xAK Hakubasan Maru near Kendari, possibly a refugee from Force Thunder's anger. The Empire made a combined airfield and port raid on Soerabaja and destroyed small combat craft and USN SS Spearfish, which was undergoing repairs. The air base is closed for strikes but open for CAP. The last two provisional USA fighter squadrons are still transferring from Australia so EHQ's timing was good. Burma Heats Up 1942-02-16 Abemama, Ch'ueh-shan, Koepang, and Prome fell today. Pantar was invaded. Rangoon is declared an open city. Porpoise put a working torpedo into AO Shiretoko near Babeldaob, and she is burning. CA Chokai and CA Maya bombarded Pegu aiding the Empire's effort to break through in lower Burma. The old light cruiser Adelaide bombarded the invaders at Koepang, but the shock attack overwhelmed the defenders anyway. Prome was seized by para assault, clearly an often-used Imperial tactic. The base had been evacuated and the airstrip will be attacked by B-17s operating out of Dacca. The TF contact pointed out in the overview graphic could be KB as it was picked up emitting radio transmissions but was not scouted by the search overflights. Landings at Pegu! 1942-02-17 Hsu-chang, Pantar, and Feni Islands fell today. Pegu was invaded from the sea! It seems that the Imperium is seeking to trap our armies in Burma and destroy them. They might partly succeed, as the Allied units are only partly moved out. Most units have movement in the mid-30s miles, but 4 units are at the 22 to 23 miles range as air attacks and bombardments kicked them into combat mode. It is possible that some or all of them will move out of the hex next turn. Keep your fingers crossed! The heavy bomber squadrons in India are being infused with the most highly trained pilots the USA has, but more are needed. Still, this should reduce bomber losses and increase their effectiveness over their performance in the DEI. Cruiser DeRuyter makes slow progress and temporary repairs are going well. She is, however, only 240nm from Koepang and making only 80nm per day. Imperial fighter sweeps against Java do too well, and the combination of good quality pilots, mediocre aircraft, and damaged bases is simply falling short of the task at hand for the provisional USA fighter squadrons. We can pull off ambushes and slaughter bombers, but the Zeros are good and their pilots are obviously good enough. The dive bombers and torpedo bombers are being deprived of targets by the Empire - how unfair! The heavy bombers on Java are still on the job, but they will soon have to withdraw to Australia if current trends continue. The battleships that sortied north from Pearl Harbor are going to Kodiak Island and will base there. The carriers are being recalled to Pearl. No sense in giving away their position, as there is no sign of enemy shipping in the Aleutians. The carriers would have to raid the Kuriles to find any, and I don't sense the timing is opportune. The disappearing act by KB brings up one possibility of Imperial aims. Kaga was attacked in the Celebes Sea, and neither hide nor hair of the KB has been seen since. Perhaps the KB will sally through the Malacca Strait and support an invasion of India. Either the Calcutta area or Ceylon seem most likely. The approaches to the strait have been well scouted continuously, but search in AE is delightfully imperfect. KB could also be getting into position to provide close air cover for an invasion of Western Java and/or Eastern Sumatra (northern and southern in the game) by transiting to the South China Sea. Java Waiting 1942-02-20 Ch'i-hsien, Dili, and Nadzab fell today. Denpasar and Singkep were invaded. With any luck the reinforcement of Denpasar has caught EHQ off guard and more Imperial troops will be needed. KB still has yet to reveal itself, only fleeting clues leading to guesses and possibilities. The graphic shows the Java airfields large enough to launch strikes. All of them on southern Java (east IRL) have been shut down. The one close enough for Dutch medium bombers saw them fly and attack bravely, but lose many of their number in the effort. The Empire has demonstrated that it can close any airfield on Java at will. It has allowed two airfields on northern Java, plus Oosthaven, to repair. The first landing on Java will probably come from the south. This could be a deception to confound Allied counter attacks, with KB preparing to move in from the north to suppress those airfields hard once they are stacked with attack planes, but that is hardly necessary. As hoped, the Empire has found it necessary to land additional troops on Bali to assault Denpasar. The Empire has also invaded Northeast Australia. How much force will they put ashore at Normanton? In what direction will they drive? What is EHQ's objective in Australia? In Burma, Imperial troops have appeared astride Taung Gyi. There strength is unknown, so measures are being taken to reinforce the Central Burma garrisons that are holding open the Allied army's line of retreat. One Bde has yet to make the forest below Toungoo, but they were spared a ground attack. It seems that yesterday's river-crossing shock attack hurt the Imperial units badly enough to stay their hands. Around Kalidjati the motto was "Maximum defense with minimum assets!". First a pair of intrepid motor launches barred the harbor entrance, bringing on the demise of one. Two Grips 1942-02-24 Lunga and Normanton fell today. Tjepoe was invaded. Some Allied units have made Toungoo and more will tomorrow. One or two units will take a day - perhaps two - longer. Pursuers are already approaching the forest on the same road (from Pegu). A nighttime bombardment of Tjilatjap achieved little. The battered Imperial convoy bound for Kalidjati is either at Tjepoe unloading with others or standing 100+nm off that doomed town. KB stands within range of virtually all bases on Java, but most noticeably guarding the flank to the Indian Ocean of the invading forces. Allied battle fleets would be made to pay a price for intervention.

This Normanton move, I'll mostly contain for now. If I send too much there to expel the buggers those forces will be a long travel from anywhere else. EHQ might have designs on the northern part of the east coast. It could be just that the Empire is putting armored units ashore to get behind Darwin area forces for when a significant landing pushes them back. I continue to prepare the lines of withdrawal, though, so the Imperial forces would be the ones getting cut off. If Normanton is part of a move on the northeast coast of Australia then it's partly a distraction and partly a flanking maneuver. The real show would come with a landing in force somewhere on the east coast itself. Of course no matter what the strategy, Normanton could give EHQ a forward aerial recon base. Two regiments of the Americal Division arrive tomorrow, and the third arrives by ship in perhaps ten days. Today several American units arrived, mostly also for South Pacific (as is Americal), but they will defend Australia as needed. They include an armored unit, AA, artillery, and two base engineering units. Those two are heading to Alice Springs where building will shortly change from fortifications to the airfield. All the other bases in NW Australia have built only fortifications so that the Empire will have to build it's own airfields. Each base on the line of withdrawal also has a small armored unit, some have troops, extra base support (from the Philippines), and fighters (no fighters at the dot base Fenton); all designed to defeat any para assault. The USA air units for II Fighter and V Bomber have been arriving steadily. All the V Bomber B-17s are back from Java (save two trying to make repairs under fire). All air units except searchers and the forward deployed are training furiously.

The aerial pounding of Java's runways and other facilities continues. Java Airlines Cancels All Flights 1942-02-26 Mussau Island, Malang, Denpasar, Tung-Yang and fell today. Due to damage, there are no airfields on Java capable of launching strikes. This is the first time that the Empire has achieved this, although it seems it might have been done earlier had it been an objective. The withdrawal in Burma is still a near thing, with Imperial units in hex with the last Bde still on its way to Toungoo. There were no bombing raids today. [:D] All the pilots in the squadron have a minimum of 70 Air skill (I replaced everybody with less). They are working closely with three good British squadrons (probably more Exp but less Air skill overall). All four are LRCAPing fairly close to home base and at various altitudes. The sweeps have sometimes hurt, but most are handled OK by the British who are flying higher. Mostly the fighter opposition seems to have been Oscars and Nates, with just a handful of Tojos that sweep. I can't say definitively from watching the replays, but I think most of the P-39D kills have been of the bombers. So, the Hurricanes handle the dogfighting and the P-39's use that big armament to get the bombers! And while all the raids have been contested with some shoot-downs, I think the worst damage has been done in two or three big fur-balls where they caught the bombers with no escort or a small escort which was then overwhelmed. So, in other words I am managing this air battle to maximize the protection of the troops, or the cost to the bombers will be high when they press on. I should point out that the P-39D squadron is AVG and some kills of the 37 came with that early model P-40, H-something it's called? I pulled them back when they got worn down, upgraded the planes, and brought in all trained pilots. I do think most of the 37 kills are against bombers once they got into the current scenario. That is ending now as the fighters begin to pull back ahead of the troops.

Arrivals 1942-02-27 Ku-shih fell today. Benkoelen and Fergusson Island were invaded. Weather kept the Allied bombers from flying in Burma, but the last Bde made Toungoo and is moving on. The enemy is too close behind to risk using rail movement, so the chase will continue. A bunch of ground arrivals today. Most time was spent sorting through who's who. Imperial forces are moving on Java, likely it will be two or three turns before the fireworks begin on the ground.

The Quiet Before the Storm 1942-02-28 Fergusson Island, Taung Gyi, Probolinggo, and Benkoelen fell today. Bima was invaded. Huai Yan was liberated. The 13th Burma Rifles Battalion was actually wiped out by the IJA 56th Recon Regiment at Taung Gyi. Now it moves on to block Allied withdrawal. An Indian Bde plus the 18th UK Div are being brought back my rail to deal with it. 37 days remaining for the Empire's amphibious landing bonus. The manual says "4 months", so I am assuming that April 6, 1942 is the last day of the bonus. Below is snap shot of the most significant air losses to date. We were pulling toward even until the onslaught at Java. There are more air losses to be felt there too. Otherwise, we are holding our own. Palembang Waits 1942-03-01 Madioen fell today, and Vanimo was invaded. KB has drifted farther into the Indian Ocean with what appears to be an ASW TF between it and Java. It is still in blocking position, but it blocks nothing but waves. Palembang is at fortifications level 1 and with constant bombings will get no higher. AV will be just above 790 tomorrow, and supplies will rise to over 70,000. Units in Palembang are taking replacements so the AV will continue to grow as long as allowed. When the time comes, some units will combine into their division, others into their brigade. They are staying broken down for now to take replacements faster in aggregate.
