Hello

Ironman is a Scenario (Number10) and not an AI. The Scenario is a game for an human player against Japanese ai. When you patched the game withe latest official patch than you have the scenario. It gives the Japanese Side more ships and other things. I think it also using different scripts.

So in short it is part of the game now...Andy Mac will probably update the Scenario...I am not sure but If he did this you will find it in the Scenario Design and Modding corner here.

There also exists an Ironman Allied Scenario...(human Japanese side against allied ai)..You can find it here

Hope it helps

To upgrade your response, the Idea behind Scripts is that the AI has a few to choose from, meaning every game you play against the AI will be slightly different in terms of how they respond. Some are aggressive, others defensive and such.

All the mods/scenarios are free

Ironman AI is REALLY fiendish!  Andy has some really good ones in it.

I'm totally enjoying Ironman...May 1944 the Jap carrier force remains intact and elusive.

themetalcrow -> RE: question about ironman AI? (3/26/2011 6:32:28 PM)

so, it's a scenario? is it campaign length or just a couple weeks campaign or what exactly?

Hello

It is Scenario 10. It starts with pearl harbor and ends 1946 or one side meet the victory condition.

It has some other scripts. And the scripts include multiple options for the ai (e.g. attacking Australia, or attacking something else). So it can happen if you play one game ironman the ai will take a script to take Australia...when you play an other it can take an other one...

Best is start a game scenario 10 as allied ...than you can see, play and enjoy the scenario [:)]

Short answer: IRONMAN is a campaign scenario. (All of the scenarios starting on 7 or 8 Dec 1941 are campaign scenarios.)

ok that sounds good. one last thing.

by scripts, do you mean that the ai randomly chooses one at the beginning and plays by that no matter what, or will it react at all to what the player does ever? or is it more like the higher the difficulty level then the more scripts the ai has open to it, and that it can play by during one game? or is it just one script per scenario?

while im not really looking for the awesome unbeatable ai, i do find high importance in dynamic ai and lots of replayability.

will this ai provide it?

Hello

First I am not an expert about how the game handle all aspects of the ai and scripts. Second I don’t think it is good to know for the first games much how the ai is working...because the more you know, the easier is the game.

The ai difficulty gives the Computer at hard some logistical advantage and at hard also some combat advantage.

Scripts are more goals for the ai. The number of scripts are few hundreds. A script could be: If base X is take than start script, take 1st Corps, attack base a, b, c; attack till XX;YY;19CC...it could also send a single task force to base y and bombard or patrol.

Some Scrips are chosen at the binging of a game randomly to generate a higher lvl strategy. So it can happen if all goes well for the ai in the Dutch East Indies that the ai attacks Alaska...in an other game maybe Australia and in an third game it behaves more defensive.
I played two game a little bit longer. For example in one th ai send in early 42 surface raiders to the Indian Ocean. In the other game this did not happend.

But the ai is by far not as good as an human player. [;)]

Hope it helps

Ironman is good. I'm doing one where I let the AI duke it out with itself until 10/42, which took most of the RN out of the game and left Ceylon well occupied. The KB is pretty much intact as of 2/43 and it's kept me playing very conservatively (I had to reload early on after it sank all of my remaining 6 CVs to no losses--I became much more careful after that). Now that it's 1943, my SSs have put a couple of torps into CVs I've never heard of. Anyway, it's a good challenge.

Cheers,
CC

Andy Mac -> RE: question about ironman AI? (3/28/2011 11:22:54 PM)

I was never sure if anyone was playing it so good to know

CaptBeefheart -> RE: question about ironman AI? (3/29/2011 4:15:11 AM)

Thanks for a great scenario, Andy. If I could impart some feedback, when I took over in 10/42 I noticed the the Ceylon invasion had stalled out with a big stack on Colombo, which was still Allied, even though the IJA had massive superiority in AV. There was also an isolated corps-sized expedition up around Silchar which was easy enough to surround and eliminate. Not sure if anything could or should be done to help and the scenario is challenging enough as it is. The fact that the KB remains as one unit, with maybe a CVL/CVE or two flitting about elsewhere, is quite an achievement and forces the Allied player to be vewy, vewy careful.

Cheers,
CC
