Mark Breed -> Engineers (3/31/2011 9:29:28 PM)

Do engineers offer any offensive benefits (i.e. reduce defenders entrenchment benefits, etc.)?

Thank you,

Mark

None that I know over and above morale and equipment they're issued with.

I tend to view them as specialist lads, who can throw up a trench or two- bridge even- in a hurry. So even when they're digging knowing they're going to get hit with the rabble, they're on ML so they get out pronto as soon as they smell cordite.

Stretching it, but how about this - Engineer Squads have various special equipment that gives them an AP rating the same as Assault Squads (5 as opposed to 3 for a standard Rifle Squad). So, while they don't have any direct effect such as reducing defenders entrenchment benefits, enough engineer squads in any unit will add a little punch to any attack.

Something like this would make sense, and would give engineer units a role in attacking fortified positions. Too bad it's not actually the case
