Tracker just alerted me to a rather strange occurrence in my game. On turn 313, tracker shows the 2nd British division's combat engineers 'upgrading', on turn 314 it shows all 54 squads disappearing. Looking back to the game turns, it seems like the combat engineers have already gone on turn 313 (15th of October 42'). I am attaching the end of turn save for the 14th of October. A peculiarity; they are 43' combat engineers, which shouldn't be available yet, not sure how or when they upgraded to these. The unit is taking replacements.

They already have been changed at the start of this save. Do you have the one before this? As this is from an earlier incantation (1106i)[:D], I can use the save to verify that this is (a)might be a bug(?) and (b) that is not still present.

If you mean that they are already Cmbt Eng 43' at the start of the save, then that is normal. Some digging in tracker showed them upgrading around turn 295, when the division was recombined, a bit too far back to do anything about it now (if you want that turn for bughunting purposes I can dig it up though). The problem is the disappearance of these squads during this turn, which should not have happened yet. My Allied save just before the end of the turn on the 14th still shows the division with all of it's combat engineers. I ended that turn and am adding the EOT save, though that should have been the same save as the one I sent earlier. And I know it's an old version, last time we moved to a beta we had to redo several turns. If this issue is already corrected in beta we'll now have to redo a couple because we didn't move to a beta fast enough, Murphy's law.

I ran the turn under the current beta and the Engineers didn't go away. As to why the engineers became Eng 43 in 42, I don't know [image]local://upfiles/3086/44B763C1BD6B49F789E2CBC8783028F7.jpg[/image]

Ah, light dawns. You recombined the component units into the 2nd Brit Div!!! Looking at the components in the Editor, the 2nd Rec Rgt HAS Brit Cmt Eng 43 as one of its devices. When it rebuilt the parent (2nd Div), it probably used that unit as a template for the merging of the Brit Inf Bdes. And thus kept the device for the Engineers. This was how the program handled this before. I have done a lot of tweaking of the rebuilding of the component code to get a better compromise to the defined TOE of the parent unit. I think that the new beta should handle this by probably returning these back to the pool and using normal Cmt Eng from the pool. I need to set this up in my test scenario and actually see how it is done. Thanks.

The beta lost a couple of devices when I recombined the 2nd Div. I found the hole and have plugged it. Trying to combine these editor component units seems to be the bane of my life at the moment.[:D]

Edit : And how best to go about this, can my opponent just install the beta and run the combat replay from the save I sent you or should we return to the start of the 14th, update and give our orders again ?

I think it is in Beta code that he just updated - in other words still on his PC and not yet released. I have a similar issue with Burma Div rebuilding from components that does not work right under K7 but Michael showed me a pic of it fixed, so it's code that isn't released yet.

I am still working on the next set of changes (including this one) so upgrading wont necessarily fix your game at the moment.

I'm a bit confused at the moment, you said that under the current beta the engineers do not go away. Is this a beta that has already been posted or the one you are currently working on ? I understand that the recombining issue still exists under the currently posted beta, but that's not a problem, I don't think we'll be backing up weeks of game time for that issue.

The current beta one posted didn't drop the engineers from memory, but it still isn't correct. I would wait until I post the next one.
