pcoud -> Newbee, question on land movement (4/11/2011 9:40:36 AM)

Hi all,
I'm totally new to the game, bought it last week and installed 3.4.0.202. I'm playing with advanced rules. I'm currently trying to understand very basic things like land movement, but even this I can't figure out... I can obviously move motorized units, off road, in the open, in friendly territory, at a 1 point cost, while the manual says (11.9.2 Off-Road, p66): minimum standard cost (motorized movement): 2 ? Am I missing something ?

Telumar -> RE: Newbee, question on land movement (4/11/2011 7:42:38 PM)

Then the unit isn't truck borne or wheeled, but tracked. It isn't in the manual, but the minimum cost of 2 for off-road movement applies to equipment that has the "moves poorly of road" penalty, i.e. trucks. You can see this in the equipment info. Tracked and half-tracked vehicles don't have this penalty, so if the unit is tracked or a certain percentage of its vehicles are tracked then the cost of moving in open, friendly territory is 1.

And welcome to TOAW![sm=00000436.gif]

Many thx Telumar, for the reply and for the welcome. I have actually spent a couple of hours in understanding the editor, and in creating a map with a couple of units, which then allowed me to do a lot of testing on movement and supply ( and even on desertion: I was amazed to see how my unit schrunk due to low readiness / low supply after 6 or 7 turns of constant movement ! ). I think I pretty much understand both now [:)]

You know what would be way cool?

Basing maybe off your test scenario, the community developing a tutorial scenario for teaching movement, supply, desertion, etc.

Various representative units in different corners of the map with different terrain features.

Maybe with detailed explanatory notes, maybe not.

In any case, might you be willing to post your test scenario, as is?

Hi Berto,
Maybe I am doing something wrong but I can't attach the scenario file to the message (apparently only gif/txt/jpg are supported ?). I am afraid that you would have been quite disappointed anyway, as it is just a very very simple map with various terrain types, just 2 units on it, one red and one blue, 2 citys, and 2 supply points ... As a total beginner it helped me in understanding a couple of things though, like what happens when you have urban, hedgerow, hill, forest and river in the same hex !

Telumar -> RE: Newbee, question on land movement (4/13/2011 12:26:16 AM)

You can attach non gif/txt/jpg files by changing their file name extension to i.E. .txt

pcoud -> RE: Newbee, question on land movement (4/13/2011 12:41:48 AM)

So, Berto, here it is, for what it's worth [;)]
You'll have of course to rename it in .sce
