I'm happy that I bought this game. Sure it's not perfect (what is?) but generally, it's been a good purchase.

One imperfection that keeps cropping upin posts is the AI inability to use carriers. Playing against the AI, I find it pummels me with air power...in fact...I'd say that it really likes to build a massive fleet of aircraft before unleashing hell on its poor unsuspecting human opponent.

So, I'm wondering, if it really likes to use air power....why not carriers? Is it purely because it can't handle the logic of a mobile air base? Or is there something else causing the problem?

As I said, I'm just curious.

Carriers require naval planes. the ai moves planes around and the carriers wind up with no planes on them.

I see.

So, wouldn't it be possible to program a carrier (for the AI only) that had the air power and range factored in and therefore be a complete entity rather than two (ie. Carrier vessel and aircraft)? this would prevent the aircraft being seperated. Of course, it would have construction implications (fixed size carriers perhaps).

Attacks on a carrier could cause incremental damage to either planes or vessel (random generation)?

Just my random musings[:)]

That unfortunatly is one (of the few) constraints of the editor. A SFT has to be land, sea or air theater. Although i have constructed amphibious SFTs, but they were to some extent buggy.

A shame that it can't be done. Guess I'll stick to land battles for now.

Thanks for taking the time to explain to me[:)]

I never thought of an AI in ATG, which is not able to handle carriers and planes correctly.
Thats really sad.[:(]
Hopefully Vic can do a little bit on that subject.

I made LVT's in AT. Armored troop carriers able to cross water. Not the best concept in AT though as the mechanics are a little wonky. Basically your LVT's are slow on water but cant be carried and dropped by ships. So have to be able to cross large bodies of water alone.

So, if the AI had nowhere to move aircraft to, it *would* be able to use carrier aircraft?

In the old AT, in the 1933 scenario, i would put planes on carriers. When i let the AI play britain or france who has these.. they would move the carriers around, but the planes would not take off from them. They would just be stuck there. I am quite sure its the same thing in ATG...
