bump...

parman72 -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (8/2/2011 2:17:25 AM)

Gary, your PM box is full. I have tried to request the Alt_Naval info but the message can't be delivered.

oldman45 -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/16/2014 2:40:16 PM)

I wanted to dredge this up to see if there is any more work you have done Gary.

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/18/2014 4:46:27 AM)

Actually I have been working on some German plane sides for my mod. Not sure if they would be very useful to anyone else except maybe Dali. Here's a preview. This pic is in GIF format, if you want the planes for anything just save as a BMP file and cut and paste.

oldman45 -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/18/2014 1:06:04 PM)

That is some nice work Gary.

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/18/2014 1:39:38 PM)

+1 - looking good!

Do you accept requests? I could use plane sides and tops of the Ar 196 (for AMC Thor and Michel).

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/19/2014 12:24:38 PM)

Hi LST,

I haven't had a chance yet to do tops for my latest planes but I do have some older planes with tops, including the Ar 196. The Alpha tops leave a little bit to be desired but they work. The file is GIF format, all you need to do is save as BMP and then cut and paste.

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/19/2014 12:28:05 PM)

Woops, the GIF version didn't come out well for this one, too many colors. Here's a pic of the Ar 196 specifically:

[image]local://upfiles/17421/73994CDC43934BA1A4EF2683850BDDB2.gif[/image]

Again, you can save this as BMP, then cut and paste.

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/20/2014 7:57:43 AM)

Awesome - thanks Gary! I'll put your name into the mod credits[&o]

Do you accept requests?

I've sort of been in an artistic mood lately so if anyone has any requests I'll be happy to accommodate if I can.

Hi Gary.

I have a couple of ship art requests:
1. BC Amagi Class in 1941 with then upgrades as the war progresses.
2. Same for BC Lexington Class.

I think you have the Japanese G6 and British Hawkin Class design for a hybrid CLV. Right?

I need these for the Mod I am slowly working on. If these have been done by someone else or you have them already I could happily use the Art & Shil.

Thanks!

oldman45 -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/26/2014 12:14:46 AM)

Right on the front page John.

Here are Tosa, Amagi and Kii. (Actually from my own mod) NOTE: All three ships are derivatives of original WITP art. If I'm not mistaken they are derived from Big B's original Nagato. Individual files to follow.

Tosa, Amagi, and Kii Sides and Shils in a zip file.

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/26/2014 1:50:27 AM)

As far as BC Lexington, I wish I could say there was a point in me creating another version. Big B has created the definitive BC Lexington. This is a retouched version of his Lex that I'm using in my mod (Along with S. Dakota). I changed the tint of the hull a little and maybe moved 4 or 5 pixels around. Other than that these are Big B's and they are as good as it gets.

Hi Don,

Have any of these designs already been done by Big B, JWE or TOMLABEL? If not I'll take up the torch. If so, then they've probably already been mastered and it wouldn't be much point for me to do them also.

Hi Gary.

Yes, Stock and DaBabes include a class named Camano. This was a Design 381 ship, identical to the first picture on the link.

It's getting right picky but there were a number of variations (as shown). Not all that many good photographs but google can find some more. F, FS, and FP boats and an interesting variation called H boats.

I'm not exactly sure how much doing this is worth. I'm a zygote kind of guy but not a lot of people are interested in that level of detail. If you do want to take this on, I can send you scans from Grover's book on US Army Ships and Watercraft.

Don

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/26/2014 10:09:15 PM)

Hmmm. How many different ship sides are we talking about? If I do them I'll do them from scratch instead of cut and paste from others' work. [:)]

Don Bowen -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/26/2014 10:36:25 PM)

Gary

Please feel free to pass on this one. It could be a bit of work...

There are seven designs. This first six on the linked page and the seventh only in Grover:

Design 215 - 99 feet
Design 330-D - 170 feet (very similar to 381, but with single cargo mast)
Design 277 - 114 feet
Design 342 - 148 feet
Design 247 - 140 feet
Design 235 - 104 feet
Design 210 - 158 feet (from Grover)

Rather esoteric, but these small cargo ships were very active in both New Guinea and the Solomons. Along with later operations in the Philippines and, of course, rear area work in the islands of the South Pacific. Mr. Roberts served on one.

Seven? I thought you were going to say something like 30 or 40! Seven will be no problem. Do you have any line profile drawings or are photos the best documentation we have to go off of? I can look at the linked page and if you want to send me anything else by PM that would help. The hull lengths will be of the most value to me. I see they are posted above. [:)]

oldman45 -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/26/2014 11:49:00 PM)

I will be looking forward to adding some of those into my mod. Thanks Gary for doing these.

John 3rd -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/27/2014 12:05:37 AM)

Thanks for finding those art pieces. Will download and see how they look within the Mod.

All I have is photos. I think there was a line drawing of the Design 381, but we already have that guy. I'll PM the scans from Grover tomorrow. Currently drinking heavily and laughing with friends. Any attempts to use scanning equipment tonight would be disastrous.

Glad to hear you are enjoying yourself! I've attached 3 of the 7 ships to this post in a zip file. Let me know what you think. I did the best I could given the scant photos on the ships. The 247 design is particularly guess work as the only photo I saw was almost a head on shot from bow to stern. Hard to make out what the stern looks like and the length proportions of each section.

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/27/2014 2:47:49 AM)

Preview of the first 3 top to bottom:

Design 330-D
Design 247
Design 277

oldman45 -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/27/2014 10:38:14 AM)

They look close enough for government work to me.

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/29/2014 2:18:37 AM)

Hi Don,

Here are 6 of the 7. I got your PM with pics from the Grover Book but couldn't figure out which pic was of the 158ft Design 210? Would you send another PM with only that boat so I can take a look. Please disregard the files above. I redid the first three boats and they are attached to this post. So here are all the boats except the Design 210. Also there is an alternative pic for Design 330-D just for good measure.

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/29/2014 2:20:22 AM)

And of course here is a preview of the attached files.

[image]local://upfiles/17421/15E798D9109C440F9D59B63B76B2825D.gif[/image]

GaryChildress -> RE: Gary's Workshop and Discount Art Emporium (3/29/2014 2:41:56 AM)

Never mind, Don. I figured it out. Here is the last boat Design 210. Please note it's identical to my Design 330-D 170ft except 21 scale feet shorter, therefore I recommend using my "Design 330-D 170ft B" art for the 330-D instead of the first one. Otherwise the 330-D and 210 will look identical.
