BJStone -> Question regarding float planes on Cruisers (4/20/2011 2:42:14 PM)

Hi,

I'm looking at float planes assigned to ships and I was wondering why the commander of each group is different and is not part of the pilot pool for that air group. I mean - there are only a few FP assigned to a CA or BB so why 2 commanders for two small air groups? And wouldn't a commander of such a small air group also be a pilot?

As an example, On the CA Suzuya we have two air groups - Suzuya-1 & Suzuya-2.

Suzuya-1 has one E13A1 Jake
Commander = LT Tsukiyama, W

Pilot is PO2 Nagahima

Suzuya-2 has two E8N2 Dave AC
Commander = LT Momii, E

Pilots are PO2 Kawato, J. & CPO Sakai, K.

Just curious...

Regards,

BJ

Just the way leaders are assigned.
Often the leader is a pilot in the group, but that tends to happen in bigger groups.

It might be a rank thing, but I'm not sure.
