Hey, gents, the power is back on, so I am back in communication. I appreciate your thoughts. My family is fine and to the best of my knowledge there were no deaths in our county (Floyd). Catoosa County, to our north, was hit hard (12 deaths I think) as were the Alabama counties to our west. Yesterday morning, I was just dropping my daughter off at the office as the rain began. According to the forecast, this was to be just a routine thunderstorm with the big storms coming late in the day. Truly, the sky did not look particularly ominous. By the time I reached my office, it was raining hard. On my way up the sidewalk, the power went out. Within two minutes, were were hit by 75-80 m.p.h. straight-line winds that were worse than either of the two Cat. One hurricanes I experienced during my Miami years (but nothing close to Hurricane Andrew in 1992). The winds destroyed thousands of the huge oaks and pines so common in our area. Many residences were damaged and a few destroyed, but there was no loss of life. We were really concerned about the evening storms, but in our particular area they were much less violent. We had a little bit of hail and alot of lightning, but no high winds. Glad to hear Tom Label and the Tennessee folks (Fallsschirmjaager, Treespider, etc.) are okay.
