I am new to WPO. I would like to use the ship images the were created by hellfirejet and kirk23. The class of the ship is stated in the forums however, the game files are not named. What process do I need to do to be able use their ship images?

Thanks

First of all - welcome! [:)]

Kirk will probably be able to provide more details - he's our expert. I use both hellfirejet and Kirk's artwork. They are accessed in the Art folder. You need to save both the side view, which has a water and sky background (AlliedShip_Back or JapShip_Back folders) and the "shil", which has a purple background (AlliedShip_Transp or JapShip_Transp folders).

Some of the new artwork is saved by name, others by number. The numbers generally conform to the BitMap box in the WIP Database Editor. I always make sure they do as a precaution - open the editor, load a scenerio, and click "classes".

So here's what you do -

Say you want to save an updated Pennsylvania class BB. Open the Editor like I said above, find Pennsylvania class on the left (#177), and click it. Find the bitmap number (#104). Save the updated side as AnSide0104 and shill as AnShil0104, in their respective files. The new file will overwrite the old file, unless you rename the old file - normally I put an "a" at the end of the old file name in case I decide I want to go back to it. That should do it.

Some notes -

- You need to restart WPO before the new files can be seen.
- Some classes have more then one graphic, particularly the US BBs, which convert from cage masts to tripod masts. Make sure you chose the right one. If you're not sure, look at the "First Year" and "First Month" boxes - the cage masts will be in 1922, the tripods start appearing later in the decade.

This may sound complicated, but its really not once you get the hang of it. Kirk may have some better advice for you later. The results are worth it! [8D]

Thanks for all of the information, Connfire.

You stated "open the editor, load a scenario, and click "classes"." Does that mean that the ship images will only be updated for that scenario, and I have to edit all the ship pictures for each and every scenario? Or after editing the images in one scenario, the new images will show up in all of the other scenarios?

Thanks
