mantrain -> Assistance with production (5/2/2011 11:15:18 PM)

I may have tried the patience of viewer with my many and varies noob questions, and happily, I have completed the tutorials, and am getting into the swing of da game. With that said, I am at a slight loss with resepct to production data and delivery. The manual seems terse, and the brief information is only on page 44-46. I do not see where it is described how delivery of produced items occur. An insight in this topic appreciated.

Barthheart -> RE: Assistance with production (5/3/2011 12:36:49 AM)

Produced items are delivered automatically to the HQ the is assigned to that production center.... as long as there is a clear path of friendly hexes.

ernieschwitz -> RE: Assistance with production (5/3/2011 2:28:22 AM)

... unless the production site is out of range, and unless the production site is producing a ship. A ship arrives only at the site that is building it.

Range matters.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/3/2011 10:46:44 PM)

Well, These ships come off the production line as part of a larger division unit apparently. In order to use them to transport troops ( I presume this is the only unit that can transport units by sea),do we need to transfer whatever units into that unit which the cargo ship is on? thanks!

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/3/2011 10:51:04 PM)

Sorry for all the questions, but does anyone know where to find the rules re loading and unload cargo/troop transport? thanks!

Tac2i -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/4/2011 12:03:06 AM)

See the below graphic. There is a "load ship" and "unload ship" button on the panel. With the cargoship selected, click the load ship button to load a unit in the same hex (port) or an adjacent hex. To unload a unit, select a cargoship, click on the unit in the ship, then click the unload button to unload into the same hex, if in a port, or into an adjacent hex on the coastline.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 6:37:44 AM)

Well, I follwed the above instructions, I think closely, and still am unable to unload. I am next hex to coastline, I click on ship. If I place cursor over unload button I get message" no units to unload." If I click on a unit on the ship, the screen goes to unit's info window, with compare screen, etc. not a screen to place orders. hmm, I do not understand why the manual does not explain unload, or maybe it does in original AT manual?

alaric318 -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 6:54:07 AM)

best greetings, if the production system is sending the ship to a unit, that unit may be a land division, so, you have to make an extra division with the proper 'make new unit' and transfer the ship/s (only) to make a sea unit, then, given the cargo capacity is available, you can upload land units on the naval unit with only ship/s, as i haven't seen that on the topic, i just guess if that is the problem,

with best regards,

Alarick.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 6:58:47 AM)

notice the graphic, cannot unload troops, as that order is not available. "no passengers to unload."

Appren -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 10:13:59 AM)

Your transport ship unit has your riflemen included in the same unit as the ships, this means they are not able to unload but instead...well, I guess they are somehow part of the crew, shoveling coal or whatnot.
You need to have two (or more) seperate units, one only including ships (transport ships with or without escort ships), and one or more land units. You then select your ship unit, using the Load (L) command and then chose a land unit, as described earlier in the thread. A transport ship unit (fleet) can carry up to seven land units if it originally has only a stack of transport ships in it.

crazyjohn -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 12:00:49 PM)

@Webizen any chance of more helpful screenshots with descriptions added say one of the logistics tab, battle screen, unit analysis statistics screen etc ?

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 3:38:20 PM)

I really appreciate the assistance of the other members here, though I have to admit that at this point the unload featuremakes little sense to me. It is in no way intuitive, and I find it therefore remarkable that the manual does not explain. I am sure it is a simple click or two once understood. So there are additional units that have to shovel the coal? very odd.

[:D] No there are no coal shovelers required.
To transport troops you need to do the following.

1. Have 1 unit that has cargo ships in it.
2. Have a 2nd separate unit with troops in it.
3. Move the cargo unit next to teh troop unit, or have them in the same port.
4. With the cargo unit selected click on the button shown above in this thread labled "load on ship", looks like a ship with a white arrow pointing down above it.
5. Now you select the troop unit and then click the small red check mark that appears on the far right of the button bar.

Now your troops are on board and getting sea sick. To off load do the following:

1. Move the cargo unit next to a land hex or into a port.
2. Click the button shown above in this thread labeled "off load ship", looks like a ship with 2 blue arrows pointing up next to it.
3. Now select the troop unit and then click on the land hex.

Now your troops are ready to conquer the world.

Hope that helps.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/6/2011 4:32:18 PM)

Thank you Bartheart. However it is unloading that I am having problems with. Is there a way can post the graphic of my game into the message? I tried above, but it just comes out as a attachment link.
Again, I have a cargo ship with units on it (part of same unit). The button for unloading is not highlighted. when I place the cursor over it the message " unit has no passengers," appears.

Try loading up a separate division onto the ship. If you have a division that has BOTH cargo ship and, say, engineers on it, you will not be able to unload just the engineers. If you want to disembark some engineers place them in a separate division, load them, and then unload by clicking on the division you want to unload:

1. When you type a message, just below where you are typing is a check box that says "Embed picture in post" Check that. The click the words "Click here to upload!" to select you picture from your hard drive. This wil put your pic in the message.

2. If you have troops in teh same unit as your cargo ship then you CANNOT use the off load ship button. You msu tmove into a port and create a separate unit then transfer the troops out of teh cargo sip unit and into the new unit.

As a general rule never put troops in unit with ships. It's not needed and not useful.

tweber -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/7/2011 9:20:32 AM)

There are some times you might have a cargoship and unit in the same counter (like you ships and engineers in the picture above):

- The unit is an HQ.  This gives the HQ sea cap which allows you to do transfers overseas.  If you are playing an island heavy scenario, this is quite important.
- You need a unit to defend the port.  In the picture above, the engineer will defend the port, the embarked unit will not.  If an invasion occurs on a ship, the ship is lost if the hex is take.  You could always make another unit to put the land troops in, but you might want to combine units to save the political point - it could be the last pp you need for a key upgrade
- You can move units from friendly to friendly port with the in the cargo ship unit vs being loading into the ship.  The advantage of this is you can move into a port and then make new unit in it and immediately transfer the land units into it.  This saves of turn as you cannot load and unload a cargo ship using the same unit in the same turn.  Sometimes, getting reinforcements into a key port a turn faster can be critical.

Twotribes -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/7/2011 9:49:17 AM)

You can however unload and then reload a unit. For capturing small Islands you do not intend to leave troops on. ( assuming neutral territory.

Casus_Belli -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/7/2011 1:58:49 PM)

If you have separate unit being carried by a cargo ship, you have to click on that unit, then on the blue unload button. I don't know if anyone has said this.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/7/2011 5:51:04 PM)

thank you! all the information is very generous and really helps.
Are there any threads which describe strategic transfer?
I just tried strategically transferring a unit just a few hexes to it's HQ, but even though there is rail gauge,, placing the curser over the selected hex brings up the message "impossible to strategically transfer here" thanks again!

Is the unit also positioned on railroads? If not you have to use trucks for strat. movement.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/7/2011 8:54:48 PM)

wow, that's awesome! do you have to have a direct rail connect with your HQ inroder to strategially move by rail, drawing from your HQ's Tp's?

I would think that would be a "yes".

Strategically transferring is the same as moving the same unit with the "move" button, if the moving unit has the same transport points as what was used from the HQ. Is that correct?

One other related question. If a unit is attacked (or attacks) and has trucks or trains or horses within it, does the unit suffer a penalty?

I notice in my random game with three other AI's, I am being outproduced, and I am the lowest with respect to raw material. Should I be upgrading my raw material centers? how else can I bring me production and materials up to a competitive level? thanks!

budd -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/8/2011 4:18:55 PM)

Hi,
I am also new to ATG, i'm on my 3rd random game 3 ai's on a medium map.My first 2 i got crushed by the AI on small maps[ i was between them]. My newbie answer to your question for me at least is it "depends" is your raw LOW, you dont have endless pp or ep so you have to pick your poison. I at least try to get my raw and oil up to level 2 pretty early, but first i use my pp on research to get better units. the ai gets production advantages, until you start taking there cities and taking over or building factories you will probably lag behind in production. I just try to get some better units rolling out. Like i said i'm new and like you i'm still trying to figure out best pratices.

Yes, you definetely need to upgrade your RAW production, and if you want any kind of armor or air forces then most likely your oil wells also.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/8/2011 8:08:38 PM)

IS there any particular reason why an engineer unit wouldn't be abale to upgrade the hex to the next level (2) up? The "build" icon is not selectable, and the engineer unit has plenty of AP's.

mantrain -> RE: Assistance with cargo ships (5/8/2011 8:49:34 PM)

Oh, I am short on Ep's. Damn this learning curve!
